To perserve their youthful look, the shorter then better while aging gracefully in their 40's mid 40's and late 40's?

I've been really stuck in this area and uncertain of what to do, I have had different hairstyles, long, medium and short hair. Once joked with a friend, shave it for 'wigs' for kids...My Dad would not be too happy if I did it, he would wear a paper bag while going to a Christmas party, should a relative ask about Quin's shaved head come up...LOL..

Suggestions please?

There aren't any hard and fast rules when it comes to hair length and age. Things to consider:
1) Is your hair lush & healthy?
2) Which length best flatters your features and face shape?
3) Has your hair texture changed & need a different hair cut to make the most of it?
4) Do you have the skill & time to style your hair in a way that flatters your face? i.e. put up long hair in pretty updos or blow it dry everyday to create body
5) Is your hair a pretty color or is it turning dull or yellowish gray? If it is getting dull, then it may be easier to maintain hair color on shorter hair.

Personally, Short hair doesn't do anything for me. I've seen girls with long hair tie it back in a pony tail so the top and side are pulled right back so there is nothing to frame the face. To me it just looks "wrong". But when I see women with shoulder length on longer hair that frames or accentuates the face, it looks so much better, even sexier than short hair.

Shoulder length definitely looks better on most women in their mid 40's. My mother kept her hair this way during that age and looked great. People often commented on how young she looked. Also, as women age, their hair tends to get thinner. Having a shoulder length cut, as opposed to a longer cut, will give the thinning hair more body and just make it feel like it has more of a bounce than if you kept it long. And of course it is definitely easier to take care of. ^.^

Long hair (below the shoulders) on women in their forties is not a good look.

Perms are equally wrong however, on anyone.

Shoulder length hair (or shorter) but not permed for 40+ women.

hair is more flattering in a shorter style or an upsweep as we age. long hair pulls down the face (jowls &tc are already starting to sag in the 40's, why accentuate?)

it also makes one appear to be stuck in a time warp, although since you frequently change your style that doesn't seem to be your problem. :)

Definately shoulder length or shorter. Long hair doesn't look good on adults, yyou'll look like a bit of a hippy with long hair. Don't go there!

I mean, you can't go wrong with shoulder length. It's just easier to maintain... even a lot of people in their twenties have it this length just because it's easier to take care of. So it won't make you look older to have hair to your shoulders. No reason to cut it chin length or above! There is a middle ground =)

Women have more character in the ``40s``. Short is the best, it is easy to manage.

My wife has hair down to her butt she is 54 years old and I LOVE it.
So the question answer is !!!
do you have a companion whom you love? if so do they love your long hair?in your relationship if it is healthy are you willing to indulge love for and about you. if so take this attitude !!! tell the rest of the world to kiss your dark side of the moon....If what you do or wear makes you and yours happy it is none of their concern.
I am 60 and have learned the rest of the world does not pay my bills or run my life nor enjoy my wife so they can take their opinion and shove it.

I would grow long hair down a little past your butt because you look younger and people would ask you if your 30 thats what i would do.
