My home phone is listed in the phone book so I do receive these annoying calls. The only effective method I know of is if I have the time, I mess with them by having them repeat themselves over and over and telling them to hold on a second while I put them on speaker phone. Then I ask them pointless questions which have nothing to do with what they have been talking about. When they finally try to "end" the call, I ask to speak to thier supervisor and continue to waste his/her time as well.

Simply asking companies to stop calling never works. I wish people would stop working for companies who solicit by phone but I guess people have to work somewhere ><

i used to be a telemarketer and actually, you are doing the WRONG thing....they are graded on a combination of sales and *talk times* which means how long they can keep someone on the phone....if their talk time is really high, it appears as if they did everything they could to get that sale....you are actually helping them.

What you need to do is say this, verbatim, "Put me on your do not call list." It is illegal for them to call you again, or to keep talking to you, after you say this....however, they may give you some bull about how you may receive another call, blah, blah...You tell them that you said you wanted on the do not call list, that means now, and that you know by law that they can not call you again. If they call you again, you will be calling the Attorney General's Office. Then ask to speak to a supervisor, and relay the same message. This WILL do the trick. I have NEVER had a telemarketer call me again after I did this. They know that you know what you are talking about when you say all this.

Also, register your number at this address at www.donotcall.gov. Do this every 3 months, and make sure that you tell these companies that you are on this list as well. Register ALL numbers here that you do not want to receive these calls at.

We used to get them all the time at the place I work until I started here and put a stop to it.

This should do it for you :)

There is a no-call list. You can google it and enter your phone number on line. In about 30 days (the time it takes to have the telemarketing company's update their lists) you should stop receiving these calls. I believe it is good for 5 years.

There's some sort of machine out there to zap incoming calls from telemarketers and all those annoyances. Can't remember what it's called but it's about 50 bucks and hooks into your phoneline. It bounces back a "no connection" signal to the call centre and their computer takes your number out of the lists.

Or do what my family has always done, pretend you don't speak the same language as they do. It's rather funny.

They make a telemarketer device which you hook up to your phone and once your phone receives such a call the number is blocked from coming in.
These devices do work, but you have to leave it on your phone for at least six months.
I forget the name of the device, a Telebuster or something.
Your ploy is only wasting more of your time.
Just say " please remove my number from your database" ,hang up, and let it be.
Life is too short to worry with the little things. It is aggravating, but it WILL go away.

Since they have a quota to fill, simply put them on hold and sit the phone down, typically they will only wait on hold about 5 minutes.

Like ants , they are everywhere.
One of them told me I was very impolite as I told her I didn't want to buy anything and I didn't want to talk to her.. She actually got after me, and last time I checked she wasn't paying my phone bill.
