"Asunto" it's more of what is the thing about, "tema" is it's theme. Depending on the sentence they can be synonyms.

"Se empena" & "insiste" are synonyms, but "insiste" is the polite way of saying it.

"te deslizas" & "evades" depending on context, would be like an cautegious escape.
