I play basketball for my school, but since the season has been over for about 2 months I have indulged in large amounts of food. I was always kind of built and solid, but I packed a little extra weight on. I weigh 215 and im 5'11 Male. I would like to get down to 175-180 (Lose 40 lbs) by the end of this summer (is this possible?), then I will let my weight go down gradually during the season. Do any of you have advice, like the exercises I should do, or what should I eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner....or what time I should stop eating at night. Any help is appreciated, Thanks

Unless you work out like crazy don't aim for 40 pounds this summer. Don't give yourself a number just concentrate on getting healthy. Any cardio is a great work out for weight loss. Try to do cardio atleast 3 times a week for an hour. Other than that stay active!! So do what you enjoy, like swimming, running, biking, ect. Don't spend too much time on the couch this summer. Stop eating after 8pm. Drink lots and lots of water!! And if you're a soda drinker, cutting out soda alone can make you lose like 20 pounds in a year.

As far as meals just stick to lean meats, lots of veggies, and fresh fruit is great! You could also try having a slimfast shake for breakfast or lunch. They taste great. Rather than indulging in large amounts of food try to have 3 square meals a day and then a morning and afternoon HEALTHY snack. Stay away from junk food! Changing your diet alone will make a huge difference.

I would reccomend exercising. If you know how to play tennis, that's a great way of exercising. Go with some friends and play a game of basketball a week, and go for a run for about thirty minutes or as much as you can each day. Do some simple yoga stretches that are easily found on the internet and you will tone your muscles and turn fat to muscle. Try not to eat when you're bored and only eat when you're hungry, and follow the food pyramid (refer to sources) Try drinking lots of water and restricting fatty foods (saturated, not unsaturated,) and have less candy etc. And exercise when you can. swimming in outdoor pools is great in the summer too cos you'll get a nice tan and will exercise all of your muscles at the same time.

Believe it or not, with eating, it's best to eat 6 small meals, rather than 3 big meals a day. Eat breakfast, then fruit in mid morning, and then something lite for lunch, then a power bar or somehting in the afternoon, dinner, and then a lite snack later in the evening. Most people have the most difficulty in the evening, when it is MOST important to be disciplined. Also, don't forget to stay active, play basketball, run, ...do something, at least 5 hours every week. Good Luck!!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Keep playing basketball in the offseason. I'm guessing since you're only 5'11 that you're a point guard and 215 is much too big for that position. Even getting it down to like 185-190 would be ok but make sure you still have speed.

Definitely should not eat after 7pm or if you can 6pm.

Eat lots of protein, fruits and veggies. Eat less carbs, fat, and fruit juice. Exercise more--especially the cardio. Basically those classic, weight loss stuff.

Good luck!
