Depending on who you ask your going to get different opinions. Handle both of them and see which one fits you the best.

As for my opinion, I do most of my hunting in Florida & some in Africa. I own 4 Ruger rifles. Although my favorite is the stainless rifle is the Ruger No.1, I choose the M77 Mark II Stainless as 2nd. I have not owned a savage or shot a savage in 2 years. I can tell you that with all their advertising campain, they have alot of people believing they are a good gun. 2 Years ago I gave my last one away as I feel it had no value @ 1 month old. I will never own another Savage in my life, thats how I feel about them. I also have never tried to speed shoot my bolt action hunting rifles so 3rd shot heating problems should never exsist. Ive also never seen or heard of a Ruger rifle misfiring.

You should also look into what name your getting when you buy a firearm. Ruger ranks in the top 5 as far as rifles. Sorry but there is no Savage in the ranks at all. Could there be a reason ? Maybe you pay alittle more for the name indeed, however that why they say you get what you pay for. This saying stands true to everything you buy. When you save money you save 10,15, or even 30 bucks, saving over 100 dollars is settling for less not saving money.

Go with the Savage. They are good shooters out of the box and have a pretty good trigger pull. Crisp and light. Depending on what type of shooting you are doing you may end up replacing the scope anyway. The scope that come with the guns are generally not the best optical quality. It would work for some hunting applications and short range target shooting but that's about it. You may be better looking on gunbroker.com to find the same model without the scope and save a few more dollars.

I had a Ruger M-77 MkII Stainless All-Weather in .300 WinMag. It was an absolute POS!

I tried bullet weights from 100 grains to 220 grains, and I tried thred different primers and seven different powders. I simply could not get the damned thing to group worth cussing, and about every third round would misfire. If I knocked the primers out and hit them with a hammer, they'd pop, but they would not fire from the firing pin blow.

I traded the thing for a Pedersoli Rolling Block .45-70 and felt like I'd made a helluva great deal! My only regret was not taking the Leupold Vari-X II scope off before trading it off.

Get the Savage M-110. I've never heard a Savage owner complain about his rifle.

I've never known a Remington 700 to be anything less than the most accurate out-of-the-box bolt-action there is, regardless of calibre. Rugers are without exception extremely strong and reliable, and some of their guns such as Mini-14 and many of their revolvers are true classics, but their bolt-actions have not been the last word in accuracy. Some M77s may shoot better than others, but with a Rem700 you basically just expect superior accuracy, and if you don't get it right away, its probably the scope, the mounts, the ammo, sunspots, intestinal gas, but not the action, stock, barrel, or bedding. Given that a .223 is usually employed against rather small targets, any advantage in accuracy is not to be dispensed with lightly. So go with the Rem700, but keep a Mini-14 handy in case the woodchucks organise a counter-attack.

Savage shoots just as good for the money. Rugers in Minnesota sell new for $479.

You're paying $120 more for the all-weather fine and the Ruger name. There's nothing wrong with the Savage so why don't you save yourself a hundred bucks.

The Savage is the better deal. Their newer rifles are getting a lot of high marks for accuracy and quality.

The Ruger's a little overpriced, but if it has a decent trigger, sometimes an important "if," I'd go with it anyway.

go to www.gunbroker.com, it is like Ebay, you have to bid. if you win the bid you have to have it shipped to someone with a FFL (federal firearm license), you local gun dealer will probably let you have it shipped to the store, possibly for a small fee.
