I know exactly what to tell you because the same thing has happened to me. Last December I got a haircut with a number of both short and long layers... as my hair grew out and I got split ends, the layers split also, and ended up "looking wavy" like you described.

The one product that returned my hair to its original state was Wella Biotouch Reconstructing Conditioner. It's in an entirely yellow bottle and is made for damaged hair. I put it on the lengths and ends of my hair (making sure I get it on the ends of my shortest layers)... leave it for a couple of minutes.... and then rinse out in very cold water from the shower head..... it works wonders for me!

I would also advise you to use a Wella Biotouch shampoo to work in unison with the conditioner.... I can't tell you which shampoo would be best for your hair type, though. Go to your local salon and ask the hair stylist on what type would be best for you.

Wella Biotouch products are fairly expensive and are only available in salons, but they are SO WORTH IT. Honestly! :)

Good luck....

Take small sections and twist them till they are just about ready to fold. See all those hair sticking out ? Those are your split ends. Very carefully trim them off and you will get rid of them. If you use a blow dry a lot you really should invest in a heat protecting product. If you use a flat iron make sure your hair is bone dry. Try not to pull and snap your hair when it is wet, that causes breakage.Try using a leave in conditioner after every shampoo. Sounds like you have dry hair so go with all moisture products.
Hope this helps. I have long hair and I have my husband do this to my hair and it works, just be very careful.
Good Luck

I would suggest some deep conditioning treatments! If you've got a few extra bucks to spend, there is a line called Kerastace that has some excellent products! You can buy the deep conditioners at a higher-end salon for home use, or you could even schedule to have weekly treatments done, with a protein oil that Kerastace makes. You won't be able to buy this oil for home use, but it works wonders at the salon! If you've got a stricter budget, I would suggest going to your local beauty supply such as Sally's beauty supply and buy a product that they carry called Afogee (I'm not sure if that is the right spelling but they will know what you are refering to). Follow the instructions VERY carefully on this product! It is meant to be applied all over, and combed through immediately after. You are to sit under a heated dryer or use your blow dryer on low speed all over until your hair is hardened, do not bend or comb through while hard! As soon as it is hard, you are to rinse out! Do not shampoo, you may use a conditioner, even a deep leave-in conditioner and I would suggest rinsing with cool water. Another good product that isn't too pricey would be "Extreme" by Redken. They carry a shampoo and conditioner, as well as a few deep conditioners! (this is a dark blue bottle and can be found in most salons that carry Redken). When you shower, I would suggest washing your hair first, rinsing, then applying your conditioner and let that sit while you bathe, shave, etc. and when it's time to rinse, do so with cool water! Before blow-drying I would suggest using a product by L'Oreal's Texture Line called "smoothing serum", this comes in a white bottle with black and gray writing and the serum is orange. Apply this, mainly to your ends before blow drying! (I love this product!) After you have blown dry, my favorite serum is Biosilk "smoothing serum" in a clear bottle with a black cap and black writing! Again, apply mainly to ends! It smells great too! And ofcorse, keep getting your trims for those ends! (Everyone's got some split ends, you just gotta keep them under control!) Good luck!

The only way to get rid of splits is to cut them off.
Go to a hair stylist and get all of your layers trimmed.
Once you have that done, invest in a good quality deep conditioner and use it ATLEAST once a week. This will make your hair healthy and prevent you from getting more splits.
Also use a protectant spray whenever you style your hair using heat.

Section & clip your hair while it is dry.

Take each section & twist it so split ends stick out.

Trim off the split ends w/ small scissors (i.e. baby or cuticle scissors).

Then keep your hair well conditioned to prevent future split ends. (ex. Mash half of an avocado & apply it to wet hair. Leave on for 15 mins. & rinse well w/ cool water. Use a deep conditioning product from Pantene.)

Use a wide tooth comb after shampooing to de-tangle. Do not ever use a brush on wet hair.

To minimize drying time - use a super absorbent microfiber hair towel. (i.e. Aquis or The Body Shop)

Let your hair air dry as often as possible.

If your hair is splitting it sounds like its very fine. I have fine hair too and I've tried just about everything. What helps in preventing them is to comb when wet and use a detangling spray first. You're always going to have some so you need to rehydrate. Look for products in the shampoo range for "frizz". There's no short cut, you just have to try them till you find the one that works for you. Good Luck!

i may get corrected on this... or eeeewwwwed out... but i take vasaline. and just a teeeeeeeennynnnynynynynynyyn weeny bit. and stick it on the very very tips of my roots... barely a centimeter, every week or so and let it sit for a while. if u have naturally greasy hair i dont recomend it. i have dry hair. i also use moisturizing shampoo, and conditioner. i also read not to wash ur ends with shampoo to often... they dont get very dirty anywayz. and the shampoo just dries them out. look for leave in conditioner to leave on ur tips too. there are all kinds of products to use on ur hair. just look, some are very inexpensive.
