Well, no sodas would be allowed, only water. I do realize that some stuff breaks down and turns to fat but I am not so worried about that. I just want to get my taste buds used to food that is low fat and I know that by restricting it I will like more foods (after awhile) that have less fat. I really need to have a better eating lifestyle and need to lose a bit of weight. Yes, I do exercise. I just want to know different opinions on what I should lower my fat content to and what is the allowed amount according to nutritional guidelines.

Fat should comprise about 25 -30% of total calories. There are 9 calories per gram of fat. So if you're eating 2000 calories a day, 25% of that is 500 calories...divide that by 9 and your allowance would be 56g of fat.

Don't go below 25% though b/c research has found when fat content goes below that, binge eating is more likely and satiety (satisfaction after eating) decreases.

Hope this helps =)

You shouldn't necessarily loose ALL fat in your diet, just the saturated and trans fat. Loose a lot of the cholesterol, lower sodium intake, and watch your sugars. We need fat to keep our bodies healthy. If there isn't fat on you, the body starts eating the muscles.
I don't know the nutritional amount that is required, but I think it's a 2 servings of meat a day. That should be about the size of an average human fist. Just cut away all the fat. A great way to lower fat content is to become a vegetarian (in my opinion because I am one and my fat percentage is now at the normal rate).
The whole thing about the taste buds, that doesn't sound right. In fact, because you are depriving your body of fat, you will actually crave it. You have the right idea about calories, don't just count calories. Make sure you are eating foods that are not high in saturated and transfat, sodium, cholesterol, sugars and carbs (unless you plan to do a lot of excersicing such as hiking, walking through the mall, running, etc.). Good job for kicking out the sodas. That's a problem in diets. Good luck!

Do whatever you want, but make sure you eat enough calories and eat enough of what your body needs to function at it's best. You're body needs calcium, protein, fiber, good carbs and some fat. So make sure you eat enough dairy, grains, fruits, veggies, and etc.

I learned in a nutrition class at a hospital near me that your fat intake should be a third of what your desired weight is. (For example if you want to be 130 lbs then a third of that would be like 43. So you should get 43 grams of a fat a day). 1/3 of that should be saturated fat, 1/3 of that should be poly and 1/3 should be mono.
