The infamous Lizard letters are a very old story but here is the jist of it all. A guy claimed that he had a hand written account from Joseph Smith saying that he never met God and Jesus Christ in the Grove, but that it was a white lizard on a rock. The LDS church head quarters paid for these manuscripts so that they could be authenticated.
A big surprise was found when the lab results came in......they were forged! Unfortunately, the man who forged the documents committed suicide in his studio days after he sold the papers. It should also be noted that the Catholic Diocese also purchased documents from the same man around the same time, but never tested them. It is said that when the Joseph Smith papers were revealed as forgeries, the Catholics also destroyed the papers they got from the same man.
So the answer is no, Joseph Smith did not think that God or Jesus Christ was a Lizard, or any other reptile. Since you found out about the Lizard Letters, you should be able to find the real account of what he saw in the Grove.

You sound oh so mature....
Mormons actually disapprove of homosexuality. Their beliefs are really no more screwed up than every other religions'.
No, Joseph Smith did not think god was a lizard or any other kind of creature.
If you are really interested in learning about someone's beliefs, you should try rewording your questions, so that they do not insult and offend others.
*Not LDS, but also not ignorant.

A lizard? I can tell you don't live in Idaho or Utah. Have the missionaries come to your door? This is coming from a Mormon so you can trust this: We believe that Jesus and Heavenly Father appeared to Joseph Smith. Not a lizard.

Several years ago, a mormon guy named Mark Hoffmann, a dealer in rare documents, decided to try to destroy the LDS church by forging some rare documents about Mormons, and passing them off as authentic. Fooled even the best experts at first.
One of these was called "The White Salamander letter" supposedly written by Martin Harris, describing how Joseph Smith found te plates, led to them by a white salamander. But this was also a forgery and a hoax.

I'm a Mormon and I have no clue what' you're talking about.
Where ever you heard this, it wasn't a reliable source. Mormons don't believe that God is or was a lizard.

I'm not from the church of LDS, but why is a god taking lizard form more unbelievable than god taking the form of burning shrubbery?
I sincerely doubt that all Mormons are homosexual. "Gay" is not a word one should use to insult others.

I think it's real because I saw the lizard... he looks just like the geico gecko and he was on the beach on an island sipping a margarita in a lawn chair and he said no problems. He was a cool guy and I think the church is slightly embarrassed to admit that they met him too.
