I have a fair complexion and burn easily. I do tan after peeling, but I am looking for a fairly inexpensive brand of tanning lotion or oil with some SPF so I don't burn and peel. What SPF should I look for when buying these products? I have a wedding to go to in two weeks and don't want to be peeling for it.

Those who have answered so far have great ideas but any specific brands of lotion or oil?

The SPF actually doesn't matter as much as the sunblock's ingredients. Many cheap sunblocks only contain ingredients to protect against UVB rays, meaning you won't get burned but you WILL be damaged by the sun's UVA rays. As long as the sunblock contains titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or avobenzone, you will be fully protected. (Of course, if you only care about being burned, then that doesn't matter...)

As far as SPF goes, once you get higher than about 30 or 45, you aren't really getting more protection because SPF has to do with the number of minutes you get sun protection; since you're supposed to reapply sunblock every few hours anyway, an SPF 50 won't really do anything.

If you burn easily, no lower than 30 SPF.

If you're wearing a dress that you need some color for, go to a tanning salon; start with 10 minutes; then 10 minutes 2 days later, then 15 minutes 2 days after that. You won't notice much after the first 2 times, but after the 3rd time, you'll look great.

Tanning salons are bad for you and will prematurely age your skin, but certain clothes do require a little skin color...(backless, strapless, etc.)

Specific brand recommendations:

#1 Neutrogena - esp. the cooling spray SPF; all of their sunscreens are good

#2 Hawaiian Tropic - SPF 30 is the best

Since you are fair - wear SPF 30.

Banana Boat Ultra Sunblock SPF 30. That's affordable and works for me. You might want to try the same product with SPF 50 instead, if you're really cautious.
If you're looking for another good brand, it would be La Roche-Posay. I got this from my doctor and so far it's been good. I use it on my face. SPF 40.

Hope this helps! All the best! =)

You should never use less than SPF 30. I just use Target brandsun screen b/c it is very inexpensive, but it does a great job. My complection is light...not quite fair, but I still use at least SPF 30. Because the atmosphere is thinning and we are now exposed to more harmful rays, you should never use less than 30 block.

It doesn't matter what the SPF is since it is just the amount of time the sunscreen wears off for you. If you get a lotion with a low SPF, you just need to reapply more. If you get a lotion with a higher SPF, then you just reapply less often.

well, if you get a tan easily than you should use at least an SPF 50 because the higher the SPF the more sun protection you get and in your case you would want more sun protection

Minimum 30. This will help protect your skin from harmful rays, keep you from burning, and help prevent skin cancer.
