It's amazing how stupid some adults are, but I would hesitate about confronting the person, as much as they deserved it, but I just don't trust peoples reactions these days. You already knew the guy couldn't be too bright soo...
I would have made sure, that my children understood they had just seen a good example of extremely bad telephone manners.

i think that someone talking like this is looking for attention...otherwise, why would they talk so loud that other people could here....if you TELL them to be quiet, i think that based on how rude they are being around your children, with no regard to anyone else....they might get angry, and the situation get alot worse. and if management intervenes and you two are arguing then YOU may get in trouble as well...and how would your children think of that? Also, it could get alot worse than that if this person gets violent. A person that cannot control their anger is someone to be worried about.
i think that you should either 1) ignore them and go on about your business in the grocery store as fast as you can, and get out or 2) tell someone who works there what is going and that you would appreciate it handled. if the cell phone user gets angry with them and makes a scene, they can call the cops, and get it taken care of quick. they may even ban the person from the store, which would handle the problem completely.

YES! YES! YES! He has NO RIGHT to do that in public. Kids are everywhere! All it takes is common sense. Report him next time to the store manager or whoever is there. They can get him kicked out and maybe even sent to the police. He shouldn't be allowed totalk that way in public. NOBODY SHOULD! If that conversation is that importatant (which I personally think NOT), then he should go outside, in his car, or anywhere else and carry on with his little chat. Besides, nobody cares to hear perverted things while grocery shopping.

While his speech was rude, you really don't have the right to tell him to be quiet. In this day & age people stab each other over much less... I wouldn't bother saying anything, just tell your kids to ignore and to never act like that man and leave the aisle asap.

Of course you should've. It's just common sense that that man should have been aware of where he was and who was around him. And KIDS!!! I would never say anything like that around any kids, especially a stranger's kids. That man is an idiot, and next time you see an idiot, I hope you'll know what to do. There is no excuse for talking like that in public!

I don't know if it's "politically correct" but I certainly would. People these days need to have more consideration for people around them. When I am hanging out with one of my loud friends and she starts cussing and being vulgar I know I get EXTREMELY embarassed because other people have their 4 year olds with them.
If it ever happens again, I would calmly tap the person on the shoulder and say "Excuse me, I understand your phone call is personal, but my children can understand you as well. Could you please be quieter?" if they decide to be a jerk about it and protest that it's none of your business, you can say "As soon as you started screaming so everyone could hear, it became my business". worked for me anyway...

You most certainly have the right to tell the ignorant jerk to shut up. That is a sign of a lack of education and a very limited, crass, vocabulary.

Having been in your situation I just said in passing"feel proud about all that?'' My responsibility was to inform my children how inappropriate that type of language was. To ask them to talk about how uncomfortable they felt.

Excuse me sir, this a public place and you are speaking very loudly. Your foul language and sexual innuendo is something I do not wish my children to hear, nor do I wish to hear your conversation. Would you kindly take yourself to a place where your conversation can not be heard by those of us trying to shop. Thank you

You certainly have the right to do that, but the person to whom you are speaking may not respond as you would like.
