Just wondering....
What reasons do couples decide to do a vow renewal? Is it just because maybe they never had a big wedding? Are there other reasons? And at what point would you do that? 10 years? 25 years?

Thanks for all the great answer so far. I love reading these.
I am getting married for the first time in August, so I am not at a "vow renewal" stage. But some of my married friends who never had a wedding are really wishing they had. I was thinking a vow renewal would be nice for them.
Do people do the whole wedding dress, etc for a vow renewal? Or does that vary depending on the couple too?

because life is crazy these days and you can just change so much and it all takes a toll on a marriage! Who makes it to 50 anymore? So re-dedicating yourself to the one you love and saying "I still do" is special - at least, that's how I see it.

People do a vow renewal to re-affirm their commitment to each other and their marriage. Sometimes it's just because they want to have a big party and celebration, but sometimes it's because they went through some rough spots and still agreed to stay together and want to celebrate that. It is often done on a big anniversary like 10 or 20 or 25 years, but there is no wrong time to renew your vows.

It's meant to be a time to re-commit to one another, in front of family and friends. Though it was mostly common to have this at the 25th anniversary, recently more people are having it at the 10th anniversary. A vow renewal is not "another wedding", it's more like an anniversary party. Most people do the ceremony at church, or another location, then have people to their home for a meal.

My husband and I are doing a vow renewal this year on our one year anniversary! We eloped last year before he went overseas with the military and want to do something this year that includes our family and friends. It especially means a lot to our parents. Other people do it for different reasons....it is individual and personal to each couple.

It just shows that after all those years that they are still committed to each other and love each other like they have in the beginning.
My aunt and uncle did this and it was so sweet.

Sometime people wish to re-affirm their love and devotion to each other, and share the occasion with people that were not there at the marriage, like their children or grand children.
