man. Along a path the devoutly faithful man told the other man he was going to heaven. "Well," exclaimed the other, "I am an atheist and I don't believe in God." Not soon after both men came up to a gate, and someone said, "Who goes there." The faithful one said, "It is I who have done the will of God and done all he has asked and I have come to enter heaven." The guard said, "Enter unto yout glory." Then the guard asked the other man who he was. Nervously, the other man said, "I am of the faith of God." to which the guard said, "And which one is that?" The atheist said, "I believe in nothing, which is the faith of god, is it not?" The guard pondered and said, "Well, you see that gate over there in the distance?" That's for all of the faith of nothing. Go there and they will let you in" When the atheist got to the gate, he said, "Is this where I go as I am an atheist." The guard there said,
"Well you've come to the right place. Everyone's allowed in here." As soon as he entered he noticed everyone was just sitting around doing nothing. He asked the guard why everybody was just sitting around, to which the guard replied, "Well, we believe in nothing, we accomplish nothing and we DO nothing. Isn't that what you wanted?" Isn't that the way most people want life? Being part of "nothing?, putting down those who believe in something, especially those of god? Why does it "bother" non-believers so much?

I love it when non believers lower themselves to a level of biased insults. Anger motivation, I learned in the Marines "inbeds" itself in the "psyche." Bless all you who respond to it......

I have picked a best answer on this question because I see atheists don't even know what "atheism" IS. Most here present a defense for being AGNOSTICS, and not ATHEISTS.Get it right people.......

Beautiful story. I really love it.
It is a shame that I believe it won't be like that when we die, but, it is a beautiful story nonetheless.

Since when do Atheists beleive in nothing? If God really is everything in your world, your entire existance stands the chance of being imaginary. Since when do Atheists DO nothing? We're everywhere, friend--and we do everything you do. Except for knocking door-to-door converting people. And that holy war thing... we don't get into that at all. And using a book as "proof" for why certain people shouldn't live a certain way. Not what we stand for, bud. Accomplish nothing? Let's see: Human life is longer than ever because of advancements in medical science. While not all scientists are Atheist, you've got to admit we'd be no further along in the last few centuries if all we did was pray over the sick and dying. Through biology, we actually understand creatures around us more--rather than assume that they exist merely for our benifit, then wonder why we wind up on the food chain once in a while. Biology is an extension of science, and follows the same thinking that's chopping holes in your fairy tale on a near-daily basis.
Perhaps your story needs modified. The first gate has a guard that explains: "Gullible people enter here."

I was talking about what happens when atheists die with a believer friend the other day. I think we heard a massive smack on the head by Madilyn Murray O'Hair when she passed away. She shouted "OH No What have I done?" Remember the story of Lazarus in the Bible? He was on one side of a fiery divide, he asked that they should go back to tell his family and friends to never go where he was. Unfortunately it was too late for him. Sadly many will realise that when it is too late and their eternity is now decided upon. If they have never heard of Christ though and have lived a righteous life I believe they will be given the opportunity to accept salvation even after they have died. God is just he would not punish those who were never given the chance to receive him. Life is an entrance exam for eternity. Unfortunately some people are too rebelious to get an "education" while here.

Huh? How did you get from believing in nothing to doing and accomplishing nothing? There have been many atheists who have done some pretty amazing feats, such as Warren Buffet, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Carl Sagan (though, this one can be contested), H.G. Wells, Richard Dawkins, Richard Feynman... the list goes on and on. Go out and meet some atheists; talk to them, befriend them. I think your preconceived notions will be rapidly dispelled.

don't think you know any atheists, do you.
Well, that teenage girl who is such a fine babysitter, the pharmacist who is so knowledgeable about the prescriptions your doctor gives you, that nice young man who shovels his elderly neighbors' sidewalks in the winter and cuts their grass in the summer, the firefighter who saved the baby from the fire last week? Any of them might be a dreaded atheist. An d unless they tell you, you will never know.

How..... odd.
Do you truly have such abysmally small knowledge of atheists? You need to get out more. Meet people, talk with others.
You have spent so much time waddling about on your knees telling the ceiling that you love it that your perspective has become warped.

You obviously confuse a lack of belief in your God with nihilism. I simply do not believe in God(s), heavens or hells.
I think there is more than enough to do if we are going to make this world a better place for our descendants.
But of course why should you worry about living or making things better.
Since for you life is just for practicing buttkissing God in preparation for your upcoming eternity of buttkissing your God.
Pucker up, God is waiting.

I'm sure that Christians will really love this story, and it will make them all proud, and they'll feel all superior.
Atheists aren't really moved by it, because it sounds like a lot of nonsense to us. Yet more of the "believe in MY religion or you will be PUNISHED" that I can't believe ANYONE in this day and age would fall for.

you have saved many an argument with my aetheist friends in the future. i have been looking for words like those. i can though, kind of answer why aetheists get bothered by religion. its is becasue most are rebelling. everyone believes in a God or something so they, in their "awesomeness" think that you just die. isnt that "tough"? i mean it really takes a man to just sit there knwoing that you are dead eventually and its over. haha that i basically what aetheists think. also, since they are the minority they get attention. they pretend to make religion bother them.

The moral of this story:
Vapid little "feel good" stories appeal to vapid little "feel good" people.
Remember folks, if physics and math are too hard, you can always seek shelter in the priesthood.
