if you are just talking about wine and not pairing with food or anything then red. I would rather have a bad red than a bad white. bad whites are so horribly inconsistent and leave such a bad taste in your mouth.
however, my wine choice usually depends on what I am eating, or whatever my mood fancies. It could be red, white, beer, whatever.

It all depends on your pallet of taste. There are many fantastic red and white wines out there. Also, are you pairing it up with a dish. Red ( like a Merlot) goes great with meat. White (like a Zinfandel or Pinot Noir) goes great with fish & chicken. Red( like a Chianiti) w/ italian. If you live close to wine vinyards you can sample some of their wines. Also, some liqour stores offer wine samples and will give you a good advice on pairing for food.
