Go to the Met's web site and look up all their holdings by Mary Cassett to see if you can identify the name of this particular painting.
If not, any large university or museum should have in their library a catalog of all her known paintings. You could look it up this way, also.
To understand her body of work and this painting in particular, you could read a biography. Any general art history book covering the last part of the 19th century and the early part of the 20th should talk about her.
She never married. There was enough family money that she was able to live a comfortable life. She was an American, but lived in Paris a good deal of her life. She often painted domestic scenes inside her home and out in her garden using her sisters and their children as models. She was friends with and influenced by the early Impressionists. Later, she employed techniques influenced by Japanese block prints that flooded Paris in the last quarter of the 19th century.
Even if she had never painted at all, she would have been an important person in the history of art as she convinced wealthy Americans to buy art by the Impressionists for their homes and American museums to add their works to their collections. Often she personally helped curators and collectors select works.
Her art always strikes me as being very personal, and very tender. She is completely unafraid to make private moments monumental and universal.

mary cassat was a female impressionist. she was underrated in her day. her paintings were mostly in subdued colours of domestic scenes, particularly of women and children.
