Since adult Baptism has become so important in many sects of the Christian Church, a student of the Bible should wonder why Jesus did not give the Baptism of God, and, its attendant remission of sins to any and all with his own hands. If Jesus did not find this act of immediate necessity in his lifetime, who has given it the importance it has today ?

Can't any Christian answer a question with a straight forward answer. Whether Jesus was baptized or not has nothing to do with the question. Baptism, as stated by Jesus, brings the remission of sin...read Luke.

This is another one of those interesting questions which has people proposing many different explanations.

One group says that Jesus did baptize up to a point (John 3:22) and then stopped (John 4:2) leaving it to his disciples training them up.

Another group says that he never baptized and that the one scripture that suggests it was not meant to be interpreted as He personally but rather that the work of his disciples was attributed to him.

Some suggestions as to why he might not have baptized include:

1. Jesus baptized with the Holy Spirit...a more important task than baptizing with water.

2. Had he done so then people baptized by Jesus might have claimed superiority over those baptized by others.

3. Since the baptism is done in His name (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) it would not have made sense for him to personally do it personally.

I believe there are probably other thoughts on this matter.

I think the important thing to remember is that baptism is an outward sign of an inward change. We don't get baptized to be saved. When we are saved we get baptized to show the world that we have been changed.

The real change is described below:

Here is the reason: The disciples, especially John did alot of water baptism. The baptism was for the repentance of past sins NOT for the future. BUT, John said (Matthew 4: 11-12) "But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will Baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.......... I have been a student of the Bible and I understand that getting dunked is not the key to Heaven. Nor is lighting candles and confessing at the Catholic Church. I believe LESS emphasis should be placed on water baptism. The only reason it should be stressed is because Jesus himself was baptized by John. But in no way is it the path to being Christ like. There are many who will never be water baptized and WILL see the gates of Heaven swing open at the due time. The Baptism that Jesus gave of God was Baptism by the Holy Spirit (ergo. acceptance of the Holy Spirit into the temple of ones physical body).

The Holy Trinity is equal and Jesus Christ said in Mt 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, That is the right way but if not complete like what happened in Act 8:16-17 "because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus". i think that equal the Trinity. and they need more the (placed their hands) or now the (holy charisma). "Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit".

Uh, because he never performed a baptism via water. The guy who baptized him said that he would baptize not with water, but with Holy Spirit. I suppose this means that whoever is plunged into this Spirit comes out different than before.
I myself have had experiences that changed me drastically, haven't you? I have been baptized with Divorce, (actually twice) and I've never been the same. Hell has no surprises for me, as far as I know. Those two Harpies were really something.

Jesus may very well have baptized someone. He did wash the feet of his disciples, so I don't think He would have been unwilling to baptize. Not everything He did or said is recorded, so we just don't know this side of heaven. In the Catholic church the priest represents Christ, but it is God who actually performs the sacraments. This means that all who are baptized are indeed baptized by Christ.

Jesus was baptized bye John the baptist. John protested and said "you should be baptizing me!" Jesus said, do it so as "to fulfill all righteousness."

Jesus has his disciples do this act. I'm sure he had a reason. Later on after the gospels there was problems in the church because some thought they were more important because of who baptized them. they'd say, "I was baptized by Peter or Paul" So if one was baptized by Jesus himself what that person say? Would he think he were better?

He was the Passover sacrifice - the propitiation - for the sins of humanity. He was baptized to show us that obedience to the law is important as long as sin abounds; for obedience is better than sacrifice.
Baptism is practiced by evangelical churches so the new believer can "cement" the "marriage" to God through their belief in Jesus. It's a public act that demonstrates their commitment to follow Him.
It seems that what really has your shorts in a knot is that Jesus, "Took captivity captive." when he was resurrected.

Because baptism is not the remission of sin.

Baptism is an outward showing of what has already taken place in your heart. It is a symbol of you dying with your sin and being reborn in newness of life with Christ. Christ didn't perform baptisms, but he was baptized, and that is why we are baptized, to follow his example.

Remission of sin is from the Lord God anyway. It all depends if you want to consider Jesus merely a son, of if you actually believe Jesus that He is the Lord God Jesus Christ - the King of kings and Lord of lords. For those that split the trinity into three, the questions will never be answered but the thought will wander from one "person" to another.
