The few times that I go shopping, I am always astonished by how inconsiderate the average shopper is. On average, the maximum distance of a corral to a parking spot seems to be about 75 feet. Are Americans that lazy that they can't walk the extra 2 x 75 = 150 feet in consideration of other drivers?

In my opinion, yes they are that lazy. They are also rude, selfish jerks. I do most of the shopping and I work in retail so my car spends a lot of time parked in shopping plazas and I have dents from these idiots letting their shopping carts go in the parking lot. not to mention when I can't park my car because the only available spots have shopping carts blocking them. It's definately not because people are too busy because some stores have where you have to put in a quarter to take out a cart and you have to return the cart to the store (not a nearby corral)to get your quarter back and people always do it. I never see carts in the lot at those stores. As far as the "the store has people to do that" excuse, that's wrong. I've worked in a grocery store and they send regular store employees, usually the baggers, to retrieve the carts. So that means that when you are stuck in a line that's moving slow because there is no bagger or you can't find somebody to help you in the store, you can thank the inconsiderate pricks who leave the shopping carts all over the place. Ironicly , those people who do that are the same ones who refuse to help the cashier bag for them (because there is no bagger) and hold up the line even more while complaining how slow the sevice is. I always end up in line behind these people only to go out to my car and find a shopping cart resting against it and a new dent. Very irritating.

I do, because of the fact i've got had cases whilst i could not get right into a automobile parking area because of the fact somebody had left a cart there and that i had to get out to pass it. additionally i realize it costs the shop lots of money whilst carts rust, lose wheels, get dented or run over or stolen, and that i think I pay adequate for groceries now, why pay any further?

Most Americans have become quite lazy and it's gotten to be an all me world. If everyone would take a few extra steps to do what's seems right maybe the world wouldn't be quite as messed up...by the way...Americans are by far the most overweight of all countries. Wonder why?

It's not a phobia, they are too lazy to walk the cart back to the corrals. I always re-park my cart, as well as those I see blocking vehicles from parking.

Yes, it is laziness. Most people figure that an employee of the store will retrieve it and they have their own thing going on, always in a rush. For what, I don't know, but they are. Rushing to fix dinner, rushing to pick up the kids, you name it. Putting a grocery cart back is generally not on people's minds.

They don't have a phobia. They are just too lazy and inconsiderate. These are the same people who throw garbage out of their car. They only care about themselves.

Its not a phobia, they don't think to bring the cart back to where it belongs and if they did that would make sense, now we can't have that now can we? lol
