Braces don't hurt until the hour after. I should know because I got on braces a few days ago. If your braces hurt, its because your teeth are getting used to being pulled. I'm going to be honest it hurt for about 3-4 days. Just eat soft stuff such as pudding or yogurt.

I got my braces on about 6 months ago. When i first got there they sat me down. First they have to put these little metal things that go around your whole tooth on your molars. Those are called bands. They do it a couple of times to find the right size for your tooth. It hurts a little because the metal goes into your gum. Then they put glue on your teeth (depending on your dentist, glue tastes really bad but dont worry the taste will go away!) They then place the brackets on your teeth and align them perfectly. Then they hold an ultra-violet ray light under your teeth to dry the glue fast. Then you pick out a color for the colored parts of your braces! They then slide wires into your braces and vuala! yes, you will be in pain for awhile (for the most a week) and its even hard to eat bread. But the pain eventually goes away. Oh and your lips might seem bigger lol at first because they have to adjust to the new "addition" to your teeth. But dont worry everything will get back to normal soon! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Let's see...
This might take a while to read, but it's coming from someone who has braces.
How they put them on :
It's kind of hard to describe 'how' they put them on, since I wasn't watching, but I think I know what happened. First, click this link. It's a picture to help you guide through what I'll be telling you about : http://www.greatsmiles.net/parts/braces5...
They will glue something called a bracket (on pic) on each tooth. They have to let the glue dry too, which will take about 10 minutes. Then, they put an archwire through the brackets. This is when you will feel your teeh literally start to pull apart. It's not painful, but it's not a great feeling either. You will then get to choose which color elastic ligature (on pic) you want. This gives your braces their color, and they also hold the archwire in place.
In the picture, you will also see something called a band. This all depends on which orthodonist you get. I have them (6 to be specific) but some of my friends don't. They go on your very back teeth. In the picture, you'll also see a rubber band connecting to your top and bottom teeth. They usually put those on right before your braces come off, which takes approx. 2 years.
Before your appointment to get them on, take ibuprofen 30 minutes before. This should help with the soreness.
The first week, your bite will feel incorrect, and it'll hurt to chew. I suggest you go tothe gorcery store the night before and by soft foods like rice, pudding, ice cream, soup, ravioli, etc. They have to be foods you don't have to chew all that well, because it'll even hurt to chew popcorn or bread that first week!
After the first week, your mouth should feel a lot better, and you'll be able to eat all the foods you want to again!

No It doesn't hurt when they put them on, they will be sore for a while after they're on though. Just afterwards, you'll eventually get used to your new braces. Oh and heads up when they take out the tools don't be afraid, nothing to it girl! After you get your braces off, It'll be totally worth it! No Pain gettin' em' on trust me! They Put this glue stuff on and the brackets, it's hard to explain, but maybe you can ask your Orthodonist how their gonna do it. Good Luck and I recommend Tylenol extra strength adult rapid blast liquid it works since your new braces will be a bit sore. Don't be afraid and Good Luck again! :)

I don't know how they put braces on because I was on the recieving end, BUT it doesn't hurt. It is a little uncomfortable, and for the rest of the day your teeth will feel like jelly. BUT as much as I hated braces the pain was worth the gorgeous smile I have.
Also, to curb the pain get some ora-gel. The dentist should give you some wax to put on the braces the first few days to keep your skin from getting snagged on your braces.

it doesnt hurt at all exept when u have a lousy dentist. cuz my dentist was putting them on and he carelessly stuck the thing in my lip!!!! He didn't even apologize! but anyway...it should hurt. They fist put on these tiny metal thing on every tooth that needs to be fixed and then attach them together with narrow bands of metal. It sounds more complicated than it it. However, after a few hours and for the next few days ur mouth will get sore and perhaps puffy. the same sore feeling will occur after u get them tightened. Good luck!

It does not hurt to get them put on. They cement them on each tooth and attach the wire in the back brackets. They do rub sores on your cheeks and gums but they give you wax to cover them so it feels better for you to get used to them. When they take them off it is just like popping of a piece of hard candy, nothing like I thought it was going to be.
