If there is one thing that I hate its a former smoker who thinks their chit doesnt stink and loves to put down others and condemn them. I am sure smokers do this just to annoy YOU personally. They have it out just for YOU. Talk about paranoid.

Okay....Just read a lot of really rude comments just now. I would never sit down next to someone and just start smoking, that is very rude. However, it is still a legal activity and to here read some of the remarks here, you would think you need to live in a bubble! If smokers are standing outside your office and you have to pass them for all of 5 seconds, i'm sorry but it's not like you've sat in a smoky bar for three hours where it gets everywhere. PLEASE!!!
I'm not saying that non-smokers shouldn't have smoke free restaurants, live in smoke free home and have a smoke free office, but you do have to realize that as long as it is legal to smoke and smokers pay taxes, we can smoke in public areas. I also think that smokers need to be polite about when and where they smoke. Some do's and don'ts
Do...
Ask for permission to light up when you are sitting close to someone
Put out your cig and throw the butt in the garbage
Be consderate of everyone
Blow smoke away from people
Don't...
Smoke in the car/house with a non smoker, even if it is your property, unless you now they are smokers too
Smoke around young children
Leave cartons/matches/butts on the floor

I personally think that too many people are all about me. and that stands for both sides of the fence, smokers and non smokers. Like a previous posted said, the 5 seconds to walk through smoke shouldn't warrant a speech but smokers have to realize that we don't smoke for a reason.
i do find it rude that smokers insist on walking outside and standing right int he way to smoke. what about walking 5 feet off tot he side to smoke? not everyone can just walk through smoke without it medically affecting them. i have such severe ashma that it does usually warrant me a trip to the hospital when exposed.
if you were sick wouldn't you want someone to actually respect you and your feelings? There are too many smokers who feel their rights being taken away, but if you weren't so inconsiderate (now i put everyone into 1 group i am sorry) maybe it wouldn't have to happen.

That's because you were a polite smoker. Polite smokers will, if they feel the NEED to light-up, will politely ask the people/persons around them if they wouldn't mind if you smoked.
Those who do not ask are rude, or at best, blissfully unaware. They assume that since they are in a "public place" they don't need to consider the others around them.
HOORAH for you and your quitting! My fiance quit 6 months ago (after 28 years of 1-1/2 pack per day habit) cold turkey when he had a heart attack.

Well it's not that well for you cause since they are a smoker and they're messing there own bodies doesn't mean they could do it to you by smoking beside you. I think it's rude.

I am a smoker and I never, ever do this. I only smoke in my car and I do consider that my domain. I don't smoke when I am giving anyone else a ride. However if they do smell smoke it in, I can't help that.

Yeah. I personally smoke, but that is really rude. I think a bar or a restaurant with a smoking section are the only places where one should light up at will. Anytime I see kids around or anyone else I don't know, I'll refrain from smoking. It's rude.

i do no longer smoke and that i hate it plenty. i think of this is fairly egocentric of people who smoke to smoke around people who do no longer smoke yet i are transforming into used to it as my boyfriend smokes and maximum of my relatives do too. whether my boyfriend is now attempting to end. He has completed nicely scaling down yet hasn't end yet yet he's getting there. :)

It's the same reason they will stand outside in -20 windchill (I Live in Buffalo) with no coat, for the whole 10 min they get for break at their jobs. Then will toss the butt anywhere they want, like its not litter. Its not rude its, funny and sad all at once.

and I also hate when they're outside smoking in front of public places knowing full well that people have to walk by them.
i'm clean and fresh first thing in the morning, and what must I pass at 8:45am, smokers in front of the court house where I work blowing their stench all over my clean clothes and fresh hair.
it's utterly disgusting.

Whether you like it or not, smokers have rights too. Just like you have the right to get up and move.
Shirley, I couldn't agree more.
