The example that I am referring to is my previous question about Atheists and morals. I was blown away to see an overwhelming majority of answers come back as insulting and demeaning. Perhaps I should have worded my question differently, but I promise that I wasn't insulting anyone personally.

I would love to hear from anyone on this, but especially if you were one of the ones that commented on my last question...

I didn't answer your question, but looking back, it does read like a challenge. "How do Atheists CLAIM to have any morals? If there is no God, then where would any sense of right or wrong come from? It seems that an Atheist CLAIMING that anything is either right or wrong CONTRADICTS himself and PROVES that there is some sort of higher standard." It's a fair enough question--one that's asked often here--but the way you phrased it probably made it seem like just another challenge from a hypercritical atheist-hater.

Let me see .... first, let analyse your previous questions :

"How do Atheists claim to have any morals?

If there is no God, then where would any sense of right or wrong come from? It seems that an Atheist claiming that anything is either right or wrong contradicts himself and proves that their is some sort of higher standard. "

A. You had already insulted all atheists by claiming they have no morals.

B. You had already insulted yourself by acknowledging you cannot think for yourself.

C. No Atheists think their standard is of higher standard. There is no Standard in moral. Only People like you think there should be a standard in Moral.

D. Moral depends largely on Culture, upbringing and Era. Do you think having Sex with Children is morally unacceptable? If you do, then what about Joseph and Mary? The Alleged Jesus Christs father and mother? Do you think having sex with close relative is morally correct? However, if you read the bible, Judah insisted on Odan to have sex with his sister in law and because Odan refused to ejaculate it into his Sister in Law, he is "killed by god". So do you think you should follow what is written in the bible and start to have sex with your Sister in Law?

There are still quite a few, but I leave it to others to reply.

It was the comment "It seems that an Atheist claiming that anything is either right or wrong contradicts himself and proves that their is some sort of higher standard." that is insulting to us. You're telling us that if we claim that something is right or wrong, that it's proof that there's a higher power. (God.) It doesn't prove that at all. Nobody is contradicting themselves. It simply proves that we can use our heads to figure out the difference between right and wrong. God isn't the only decider of right and wrong. We have the intelligence to make the determination ourselves. it doesn't take THAT much thought to know that, if you see someone hurting, that they need help. Because we're able to empathize, we know that we would hope someone would help US if we're hurting.
I'm not insulted if someone asks me about my beliefs, but I do get insulted if they seem to thinly veil an insinuation that I am somehow either immoral because I don't believe in THEIR God, or that I secretly "believe" in their God, and just deny it. I'm sorry if I sounded harsh if you didn't mean it as an insult, but you need to understand that we deal with those sort of insinuations every day, and they are completely without merit, and it's very frustrating.

Because your question was highly presumptuous. You start out by assuming atheists have no morals, and then ask us to justify how we could possibly gain any without assistance from your religion.

I can see that you're really naive, but you should think a little more before asking such a pedestrian question. Approximately one third of the world doesn't believe in a supreme being, so common sense tells us there must be some way people gain morals other than from a god or religion.

I think it depends on how you ask the question. Depending on how it is phrased, I will try to give my point of view, or if asked in a way that appears genuine, I will take on the role of a theist and try to answer from what I've heard. I can't speak for the others, but when I get to clicking on "show me another" it seems to be a string of poorly formed arguments and no evidence that a god or gods exist. An immediate thing you can do is prefix your question with "Christians." I tend to ignore those since it doesn't appear to be directed at me.

Because calling into question a persons moral based on whether or not they believe in the same god that you do is an insult even if you didn't intend for it to be. I know a whole lot of people from different walks of life. No one decides to become an atheist by casting off their sense of right an wrong, in most cases they become atheists because the have a strong sense of right and wrong, and make a moral decision. I myself never truly believed in god, but never made religion the foundation for my moral beliefs. I do not steal because I know it's wrong. I don't hurt people because I have a strong sense of compassion for my fellow man, and I consider the implications of my actions in order to avoid inadvertently hurting anyone.

I will ring your doorbell and run away!!!

You worded the question in an insulting manner-basically implying that atheists had no morals. Personally, I know many atheists who have a better moral code than some people who call themselves 'Christian'. I'm not surprised you received insulting replies.

There's also the fact that the same question has been asked at least several thousand times.

well...let me read your previous question....

OK. It would seem as though the problem is related to how you generalize Atheists in a negative light with your questions. First, you insinuate that Atheists have no morals. For that, you got 3 harsh responses out of 33. Now you ask why the majority of Atheists respond with insults. 9% is hardly a majority.

Perhaps you are just trolling?

I'm sorry somebody was insulting to you, I see a lot of it from both sides. I will say this. A lot of christian will say things like I'll pray for you, or you don't understand. You know god exist but your mad... If only you could see it the way I do, If you believe you would see the truth and a bunch of others. The truth is when Christians say these things they are implying that we don't know our own minds and that we are acting like spoiled children. The I'll pray for you is very condescending and sounds like they are saying I'm better then you. I see a lot of Christians on this site do this.

Maybe you should have searched for the question first. Most of the questions asked on here come up every few hours, and we get sick of answering the same ones over and over again. Also, just because you weren't being rude to anyone in particular or put 'no offense meant' at the end of your question doesn't mean you didn't actually offend anyone.
