Depends on which "God". ... If the Xian "God", I'd ADVOCATE for the KILLING OF 2/3s OF ALL HUMANITY, I suppose.
Personally, *I* don't consider that "better"... Just "Christian."
[Edit]: Re Add. Dtls.: They why all the hate, killing and bigotry in the Bible - as per the example above (there's more of course.)

umm... what is going to help you reside longer right here and not someplace you do not likely understand would be there? Being a stable guy or woman will strengthen the standard of existence for the two the Christian and in any different case non-Christian. Having faith in a god could be yet another tale. Having faith that reported god will forgive you- no rely what you do- could be not so stable for people who do like their "Earthly Lives" if the belief is taken incorrect... not stable whilst that guy or woman believes that killing for reported god is a today value ticket to the desireable afterlife with promise of stable issues vs. undesirable terrible traumatic issues the place each and every person is violently tortured and burned for all eternity... sounds like a scare tactic to me. i think of- each and every so often... dare I say MANY situations, having faith in a god could be a undesirable difficulty.

i have faith in many gods and goddess's.. but if you are speaking of the christian god i dont understand how it could make you a better person if thats not what you want...
ok then ill assume the christian god. since i enjoy the studies that i already do i will not say that it would make me any better. i dont believe that religion should be an effective source of becoming a better person.. i believe that being honest and bringing happiness to others makes you a better person. My god's and goddess's only reflect on my personal life. although it does give me an open mind to accept others and there religions. :) blessed be!

Well let's see...
If I abandoned critical thinking...
I'd have to quite my job as a research scientist.
My sweetie would think I'd lost my mind and leave with my daughter since I wouldn't be safe to have around.
I'd want to have nonsense and fairy tales taught as science in our public schools. So I would lose my position on the school board.
I'd become pretty much useless to my community because I'd be more interested in spreading the gospel instead of doing anything genuinely useful.
As I think about it I'd be better off putting a bullet through my head,

Thats just it my friend its like having the keys to the wrong door because the bible says that those that come to GOD must first "believe" that HE is and that HE is a rewarder of them that diligently seek HIM. so if you dont have faith in GOD you cant receive the spiritual growth of faith neither its benefits.

God tells me he hates you and that I must do my duty.
Really, I honestly doubt that believing in God would make me "Better". It would not make me more patient, tolerant or forgiving.
In fact from what I have seen it would have the opposite effect.

I cannot imagine it would help me be a better person and since it takes time away from helping people and myself, I think i would be worse off.

Better yourself, maybe. People are easily blinded by helping others and not keeping themselves in check.

I can't think of any way that would make me a better person, but plenty of ways it would make me a worse one.
