Actually, they have shown coffee is a safe stimulant which many body builder drink frequently because of the overall safety (household use) as opposed to concentrated drugs (vivarin, etc).
As for a diurretic, they found this isn't really the case. It does help with bowel movements which can be an issue at the gym since you're moving around. Aside from that, it's pretty much another water source.
Of course, limit yourself to one cup preferrably and not drink during your workout. Coffee as-is contains NO calories just the cream and sugar.

It's not the best.
If you NEED the coffee, I would question why you work out. Working out is a natural wake-up sort of product.
I would skip the coffee and those extra calories and go straight to the gym. You'll wake up faster and have less of a crash when the caffeine wears out.

at least 2 hours b4 u go to the gym, you don't want your muscles reacting in any bad way toward the coffee. =) i like coffee, but if you drink coffee a lot, then it should be fine.

I think it's fine to drink coffee considering you have an hour break. And there is no calories or fat in plain black coffee. And it's mostly water so you are being hydrated. Coffee is full of antioxidants, so as long as you don't consume over 24oz you are doing yourself good. Unless you are drinking specialty coffee.

Yummm! Coffee!
Yup, it can taste great and help one to become alert. However, recent studies have suggested that it can also trigger a heart attack. That alone has given me reason to switch to light tea (green or white) or simply water.
Coffee? A little is okay but too much may not be.

Its OK, as long as you re-hydrate (drink some water) afterwards. A little caffeine stimulus should actually boost your workout a bit. Be sure to eat something high in protein as well BEFORE the workout.
