they seem to think they know better than the other.

that's just an observation I have.

anyway, what is christianity all about? I really don't know. I listened to them preach, but I only got confused, because they seem to have different interpretations of the book they're reading.

Because of different core beliefs which each denomination holds on to. Generally I see christianity as the following 11 core points (check out the bible verses to confirm such):

1. We believe in the Trinitarian God - God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:6)

2. God controls all things (Acts 17:24).

3. The Bible is the supreme truth for the good of the Christian faith, and the way we conduct ourselves (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

4. Humans are born sinful in nature (Romans 3:23).

5. Jesus Christ's ultimate sacrifice eliminates our sin (Matthew 26:28).

6. Number 5 is only true if we believe in Jesus's death and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 20-22).

7. The Holy Spirit enables Christians to believe in Jesus (John 16:8).

8. The Holy Spirit regenerates Christians (John 14:16-17).

9. A human can only be saved by faith alone (1 John 1:7-9).

10. The Church is the one and only body of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:16-17).

11. We expect God to return someday, but this is only known to God (Acts 1:11).

Different interpretations of the Bible have caused a number of different sects within Christianity. You'll get pretty confused because a great many of them are run by greed and other things, and don't really care all that much about what their audiences would like to hear.

Christianity is the belief in the divine savior Jesus Christ, that He was sent by God the Father to set examples, preach, and die for us, so that we could once again return to Him and His father.

Christianity true Christianity there are no sects, What you have is a lot of people trying to imitate Christianity.
What you need to do do is read the Bible, specially the gospels, to see what Christians believe. Yes there are different ways of looking at things, but it is still the same thing.
Like someone might say, "apple" others "fruit" others "food"
same thing different words
I can't say it better than the Bible:
John 3
16 "God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.

17 "God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world. He sent his Son to save the world through him. 18 Anyone who believes in him is not judged. But anyone who does not believe is judged already. He has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

19 "Here is the judgment. Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light. They loved darkness because what they did was evil.

20 "Everyone who does evil things hates the light. They will not come into the light. They are afraid that what they do will be seen. 21 But anyone who lives by the truth comes into the light. He does this so that it will be easy to see that what he has done is with God's help."

Most "churches" are nothing but social clubs, and don't allow actual worship in the church, so the differences don't matter; many non-denominational churches are closer to what the Bible actually teaches. Study the Bible objectively to find out what it really says. Discard preconceived ideas of salvation by works or faith only and the trinity. Notice in the Acts of the Apostles that baptism is in the name of Jesus, not quoting the command Jesus gave to the Apostles. Why would people think they understand Jesus better than Peter did? He was right there with Peter when Jesus gave the commandment for baptism, and Jesus gave Peter the keys.

True, there are thousands of different forms of Christianity. But it is an overstatement to say that they don't get along. Over 30,000 of them get along just fine, and express differences of opinion on this or that point of doctrine. But there are a few minority groups who are against all others - but those groups make up a very, very small percentage of the Christian population. Unfortunately, their bizare antics attract the most attention, so people think of them as the minority. Normal Christians are normal people, and typically go unnoticed.

In order to understand Christianity, you have to treat it like several different religions. There are as many differences between Evangelicals and Eastern Orthodox as there are between Roman Catholics and Hindus.

In short, there are:

1) "Eastern" Christians like the Eastern Orthodox, Uniates, Coptic Orthodox, Nestorians, Malabarians, Melkites, Maronites, Ethiopian Orthodox, Old Calendarists, etc.

2) "Catholic" Christians like the Roman Catholics and Episcopalians/Anglicans

3) "Liberal" Christians like the Quakers and Methodists

4) "Evangelical" Christians like the Presbyterians and Lutherans

5) "Fundamentalist Evangelicals" like the Baptists

6) "Pentecostals" like the Charismatics, Assemblies of God, Pentecostal Holiness, Apostolic Pentecostal

7) "Sabbatarians" like the Seventh Day Adventists and the World Wide Church of God

8) Mormons

9) Jehovah's Wittnesses

Most of the 30,000+ Christian denominations fall into these general categories. Each of these groups is fundamentally distinct from the others, and should be regarded as a single religion, rather than just a sister denomination of the others.

Here is how you can understand Christianity.

Christianity starts with the bible, which is based on nearly 5000 historical documents that have been preserved in tact throughout mankind's history.

The bible starts with God who created the world. Then he set forth the plants, the animals and man on the Earth. Man, starting with Adam and Eve, rebelled against God, and the rebellion continues with every single human to this day.

The bible describes God's character. What He acts like, what He knows, and defines Who He is, and the bible itself is God's inspired word that He wrote through men for men.

The bible has one problem and it has major consequences for all people. The problem is that Man breaks God's laws every single day and God is bound by His word (because God can not lie) that anyone who sins will be punished for being a law breaker.

This can be proven quite simply. Give yourself the good person test. It will awaken your God-given conscience to prove that you have sinned against God and that you need to be punished, because you are a lawbreaker, but God is a Just Judge who must punish fairly.

Try it for yourself.

The bible makes it clear that all men deserve eternal death because God is eternal and by rebelling against such a Good God and eternal and powerful God as you have done, you deserve what the rest of us deserve. Eternity in hell.

But God did something so you do not have to be eternally punished. To satisfy Justice, God became a man and lived a sinless life. Then he went to the cross, died, was buried and rose again on the third day to take away and completely forgive all of your sins. He suffered the wrath that you deserve, and that is why Jesus is so significant.

The bible says that when you repent and turn away from your sins and then trust in Jesus with your life, then you will be transformed into a new person. You'll start hating things God hates and you start loving things God loves.

Then you will be saved, or born again and forgiven of all your sins. It is not that you are any way good. The fact is we're all equally bad, but it is because God is SO good that He died for us even while we were yet sinners.

If you listen to MP3's at all, check out www.wayofthemasterradio.com and see what they have to say. They try to make things pretty clear.

That is exactly the reason they do not agree. They have tried to interpret the Bible to fit what they want to believe. I am a nondenominational Christian. I believe in Christ as my Savior because he is the Son of God who was persecuted and sacrificed on the cross so that my sins could be forgiven. It is not an invitation to sin. You are still supposed to lead a life of good works and faithfulness, but since we are human and God knows we will sin, he has forgiven us as long as we accept his Son as our sacrifice. If you want answers about Christianity, read the Bible.

I think that everyone interprets it all differently so they can use it towards their own agenda. It isn't just christianity though I see all religion doing it. They use it as a justification to war and to hate other people. Then they spout the ideals of peace.

The different sects are like children in a very large family who all have their own opinion as to how things should be done.
They forget that God is the parent of all of them and that Jesus prayed that all be one as He and the Father are one.

Different interpretation. Different styles of worship. Different levels of commitment.
