You don't necessarily HAVE to run to get the target result that you're looking for. Here's the catch.... you need to burn MORE calories than you consume to lose weight effectively and safely. I lost 30# in a little over 3 months by not drinking alcohol, drinking little or no SODA, eating healthier foods in a sensible portion size and walking. Walking BRISKLY (almost jogging) and stretching WILL cause you to lose weight when combined with a practical, healthy diet.

Everyone loses and gains weight differently, but to drive home my point, I was able to win a $500 bet that I couldn't lose 30#'s in 3 months... I'm sure you can lose 10 if not more by simply paying attention to what you eat. Start by walking and work up to running, this way you gain some success early on, allow your body to become used to the activity and are more likely to follow through and achieve.

Good luck!!!

dont count miles - count time doing cardio
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You can run 10 miles a day but if you are over eating, you won't lose anything.

Your appetite will increase with jogging. When this happens, go for the healthier choices of snacks like fruit.

Run walk 2 miles every day AND eat right. If you dont eat right then it doesnt matter how many miles you run a day.

One pound equals 3,500 calories. One mile, whether you run or walk, equals 100 calories (running is faster, though, obviously). You can do the math from there.

it is not only about running. if you want to loose weight you have to burn more calories than you eat. it doesn't matter how you burn the calories, but resistance training boosts your metabolism so you burn more calories even after your work out.
