If they stay in business, it seems like a decent deal for some people. But they might not be around, depending on the lawsuits.

VOIP service is good but not the quality you get with a land line. It is more like a cell phone. But for the cost difference it is good enough for me. If you don't have a cell phone it is like not having a POTS on a land line (only having portable phones). If you loose power, you lose phone. Internet is usually not a problem though it does go down sometimes. If you have DSL internet then you probably can't disconnect the land line so go with Packet 8 for all your outbound toll calls and keep the land line.
Given the cost, I was with Vonage and changed to Sunrocket because Vonage wasn't resolving issues and Sunrocket was MUCH less expensive on a yearly basis. Quality is pretty much the same. I am a power user and I had to resolve my own issue. But once installed, if you don't change anything, everything works well. Try it for 30 days. if it is good enough cut the line. If not stay and pay.
I have cable internet so I have no landline.

I even have not used Vonage; although, an in depth pal of mine has had them for over a 12 months, and says that they are astonishing. Vonage, although, has at present filed with the government for the possibility of going bankrupt. the way forward for the business enterprise is at present uncertain.

I don't have it but the people I know that do have it say it beats the (PacBell aka SBC aka AT&T aka Cingular) landline service all to heck.
I've tried to tell the local SBC etc.( before they went underground and hid their offices) that if they improved their service they might not have to change their name so often. Since the Bell monoply is back in biz and run by college grad (buttholes) they feel they don't need to listen to their customers.

If you are well pleased with your broadband internet connection you'll like Vonage. It depends greatly on your broadband connection
