Online is one big game if you act like a real person you have no fun at all. Pretend has never been a sin children play it all the time, actors in movies and theater, the list is endless.
Any that does serious reality online soon gets bored and goes back to watching television.

It may or may not be a "sin", depending on the ethics of your belief system.
(If you hadn't qualified it with that parenthesized [online], I would have added that it is probably illegal - since impersonating someone else outside of cyberspace usually IS against the law.

In any event, it IS impractical. That which is begun with deception can only be maintained with deception. It could get awfully exasperating trying to remember which lies you told to whom.
Besides, why would you WANT a relationship (even just a pen-pal) that is based on something which isn't true?
If I want someone to like me, I want them to like ME - the REAL ME!

Try being yourself - your REAL self. Then you can feel good about knowing that whatever responses you attract were attracted by YOU and not some phony figment of your imagination.
You'll find it's less hard work, too - not having to keep track of the lies. Not to mention less stressful - not having to worry about being exposed.

Just try pretending you are YOU - your REAL self.

It probably is, but I won't hold it against anybody. I felt betrayed, when I discovered the multiplicity of identity on this site. I suppose it serves some greater purpose. The new contacts/fans function helps me identify dopplegangers; if you open someone's profile, and then try to open a doppleganger on either list, yahoo says 'oops'.

Last year, there was a contest. I think using mulitple identities to win contests is a sin.

In anycase, I'm me. You can see different aspects of me, by using the links on my profile. It's cool, it's free, it's no sin to look.

p.s. I try to present the best me, when in public. Forgive me that vanity (waste of time).

This question assumes that sin exists.

If sin exists and it is a sin to lie, then yes, it would be a sin to pretend you're someone you're not.

Its funny, most people believe themselves to be something they are not, and wish to be in someone else's body.
Actually simple answer is that; if you pretend to be someone else for personal gain or for taking advantage of someone to hurt them, it is sinfull. If you pretend to be someone else in order to protect or help someone else, then it is goodness.
If someone judges you for your appearence and not for your maturity, control and self-realisation then why would you want to suck up to them by pretending to be something that they believe they want?

we minimise sin ,its over used [a true sin is one that condems us to hell]
with blogging depends who your pretending and what your doing with the id , [to help or heal] to mislead is misleading but to seek to subvert is subversion ,to lie is to lie ,to decieve is to condem ,there is collusion to decieve ,no bodies try to be some one else [its not the who its the why]

Are you glorifying God with your online persona or are you using it as an escape to not uphold your Christian duties? For example, there is a person who posts here with the name and picture "God's Kitten". We all know that she's not really a kitten, but she still glorifies God in her answers. I think that's all that matters.

I truely dont believe that God cares about if you act like someone else online... unless its a real person your acting like... but seriously... I know God cares and all, but he has bigger problems to worry about, and most likely could care less wether or not your acting like someone else on the computer... and also no, cops do it all the time.

The Bible never mentioned the Internet so I don't think so but why not be who you are it is easier than pretending a false hood.

Well, its lieing.
But if its for the better good, its not a sin.
But if its just cause you wana meet someone so your lieing to them, i guess.
But dont stress yourself on it, even if it is a sin, its not a huge one.
