There is nothing special about a woman's virginity. To say that a woman't virginity is a sacred a gift for her husband is to subjugate a woman and say that she does not deserve control over her own sexuality. It says that her sexuality should not exist until she has married a man because only then does she deserve the pleasure of sex.

Many theories of vriginity contain images of "filth" and "spoiling" of a a woman, and they come from ancient ideas about treating a woman as a piece of property that must be kept in a pure state for her husband or master or lord. This is a form of degredation of women in my opinion.

A woman's choice to retain her virginity should be supported to the extent that everyone should recognize a woman's full rights to retain control over access to her body. But to suggest that it belongs to God, or her future husband, or that it "belongs" to anyone but herself is just another way of keeping women down.

Guys always think women are overreacting when they talk about hte importance of virginity.. but they aren't the ones who have to carry another human inside them for 9 months and then pop it out a whole the width of a pencil. Maybe thats a bit graphic but i really do think it has something to do with it. Even if you are using protection the knowledge that sex can create life makes it a really sacred thing. It is about what makes you a woman and its why you are alive and the ones you love are alive

I commend you hun. U go gurl :D Ok, I think a womans virginity is so sacred cause who you sleep with becomes a story of your life and to give it up to someone you love with security (marriage) gives a real woman the feeling of trying to live life the right way. You'll feel good with yourself, you'll feel right with GOD, and I think men respect a woman who saves her virginity. It shows her character. The ones who say NO are the ones remembered. Not only that but then you become an example for your kids. It gives them a sense of morales. If mom can do it so can I (ya kno). I just hope your equal saved his virginity for you. gl hun.

I totally agree. Being a virgin means so many things. It means you are self-controled and make good desicions. Overall it means your smart and not too easy-to please, which is a good thing. Besides, when you find the right guy and get married, it will feel more sacred and intimate. Keep thinking the way you do! There need to be more people like you!

Well, I can, but I have to go into spirituality. So--if you're an atheist or something--don't read on! I don't mean to offend you!
A woman's body is sacred because it was created by God for the purpose of giving life to new people, for giving joy to man. I could go into so much more detail, but Yahoo! Answers isn't the place to do so.
See ya!

First off, good for you!! I think it's sacred because it's something you can save for the one person you truly love, that no one but the two of you can ever share in. You may think you've fallen in love several times before you find the right one, but virginity can only be lost (or given) once.

Keeping your virginty can make you feel like you are in control of your own body/life. So in that way, yes, I know what you mean. From a religious perspective, virginty is sacred because sex was meant for a husband and wife. It was not made for general pleasure with everyone like some people use it now. Also, if you don't want to look at it from a religious viewpoint, your virginty is something you want to give to someone who you love, someone you see yourself with forever. It is sacred because it is meant for that purpose only.

I think it's sacred to me because I don't want to throw it away on some guy that I know I'll break up with eventually. I want to give it to a man who really, truly deserves my virginity and treats me right.. someone who I know will be there in the long run. I think that if I had sex with a guy and we broke up, it would be way too emotional for me to let go. So, in a way, I'm protecting my feelings by protecting my vagina.

I was 18 when I lost my virginity and felt like such an idiot. But now I am marrying the guy I lost it to and I am so happy I lost it to him and not some loser. I love him with all my heart, he is my world. He actually wishes he had lost his virginity to me too. (he slept with 2 people before me). I don't know why it is so sacred to us, maybe because it is a sign of love...

I know whaat you mean and I am also planning to save myself. It will make marriage so much more meaningful if both you and your husband come into the marriage pure. I know what you mean because I am thinking the same thing.
