I would like to think so, but....now that NASCAR has made it..ummm..more "exciting" the first 26 races count for very little other than making the chase. Once you make the chase the last 10 races are the ones that count. As a driver and team you would much rather be on a roll in the last ten races than the first 10. Right now, if they were to enter the chase, Jimmie would have a 10 point lead on Jeff...So it comes down to the last 10 races...and there are still 15 races to even get to that point. As big of a lead as Jeff has right now..it is all a moot point come September. Thanks NASCAR for ummmm.....making it better?

It will come down to Homestead between the #24, #48, #17, #5, and the #20. I know Chad Knaus and Jimmie Johnson are the best crew chief and driver in clutch situations. Also, Jeff Gordon and Steve Letarte have been on a roll. If it comes down to these five drivers I will pick the #48 because they have proven how to win.

Yes, Jeff Gordon has the tools the support and and pit crew chief that he trusts and is ready to lead a pit crew to a championship. This is the drive for five and he gets it this year. Jimmie will be tough again, but this is the year that he has his life altogether. No Brooke troubles and a supportive wife and new baby make 2007 the year for the #24!!!!!!

Lets hope so, since he would have won the first year they changed the point system They owe him one. That race for the chase was only invented to let the officals pick the winner and to keep Gordon from getting n umber five.

I think its too early to tell once the chase starts its any body's championship to win. If Jeff can carry the momentum into the chase then yes he probably will, but it doesn't take but one dnf and your screwed. So my suggestion is to save this question and ask it again in mid September
