Lol I love the answer that says you'll become poor if you buy too much food.. here's the english from hebrew translation of Proverbs 23:20-21
20: Be not among winebibbers; among gluttonous eaters of flesh;
21 :For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
Yep that's about eating too much.
Either it's a sin or it isn't.. can't twist it to fit what you want.

Considering that gluttony and obesity are no where near the same thing I don't really understand the question. God wants us to eat and drink in moderation. He doesn't say don't drink wine, or don't eat meat, he says don't become a drunkard or a glutton.

Gluttony speaks of not gorging in food and drink, and I think we all should try and control anything that we might overdo.
There are people who for medical reasons or genetics that are fat, and obviously they have not done wrong. Gluttony and fat are not the same thing. There are skinny people who gorge on food and or drink, but they might excersise or have a better metabolism.

God doesn't hold people accountable for things they have no control over. But was does "cannot help being fat" have to do with the verses you quoted concerning gluttony? Even if hypothetically one could not help being fat, what excuse is there for gluttony? There are people with thyroid conditions. My sister has such a condition. But that doesn't have anything to do with gluttony. Likewise there are people with a high metabolism who overeat but are not fat. Fatness and gluttony are not the same thing.

Gluttony was a practice of conquering kings and soldiers. They ate until they puked and then they ate some more. I guess the food was part of the plunder. This is definately a practice in wasteful excess. Fat people need to eat a lot to supply their large frame. They're lazy because it takes a lot out of them just to walk around. Shame on you for calling associating with fat people a sin.

Being fat is not a sin.
God wants us to hold his love in our hearts, not the love of false gods like food and alcohol.
Bible verses are very hard to understand and you have to think of them as being written a long time ago and what the circusmstances were then.
Get a Bible that explains the verses so you can understand it or go to a Bible study class.

This is speaking also of how we are not to make our belly's our gods.
Meaning someone should not revolve their lives around food. That is a problem.
Someone who is always going to be overweight and struggling but not and excessive eater or anything- someone who does not keep their minds on food all the time or eat it constantly....well of course there are other medical things that could be wrong....I know some people who are overweight and have thyroid problems, or meds that make them gain weight....
But we should not make our bellies our gods--- that is also idolatry. (not to mention gluttony)
This verse may also help:
Philippians 3:19
Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

Hmmm. I don't know of anyone who couldn't help being fat. They must have made a mistake somewhere along the way. I think some people struggle with it more than others, just like all of us struggle with different sins. But it can always be solved one way or another.

I'm not fat - I just have lots of me to love :)
Gluttony is defined as "a voracious eater"
Someone who places far more attention and even worship on continually gorging themselves on food - so as to become poor.
Everyone is a sinner - regardless of eating habits or any other habit. If we take away our focus from God, we become a slave to our sin.
blessings :)

Who ever said being fat is a sin? I don't think gluttony necessarily translates to being obese. One can be a glutton and not obese and vice versa.
