I dont beleive so. Being close minded is a flaw of the person, not the beleif system. Although, I agree that some religions teach close mindedness, I still think it is a flaw of people, not religion.

I take issue with several points though not for the reason you expect.
1. Over 99% of the religions today are false. Beliefs they champion have nothing to do with The Bible.
2. They use beliefs started by man.
3. Getting rid of religion would have no effect in that case.
4. Read the ___. Do what it says. Is that not what every self-help book says?
5. Do not think for yourself. That is what every man made group prefers. Not what the Bible even hints at. God wants us to do our own thinking. That is why He gave reasoning ability. That is why the Bible urges study and putting the knowledge in our hearts. Why Proverbs urges the use of discernment and develope wisdom.
6. Open-mindedness is necessary for any developement.

If we define religion as belief, then we must say that it is not possible to get rid of religion. People must believe in something, even if it as simple as believing the sidewalk will be there when our shoe hits it.
It is my belief that this question has too many contrary loose answer to be answered adequately.

Lostfan, refusing to renowned all faith and any variety of spirituality is "openminded"? Heh heh. think of somebody who ought to work out completely yet refuses to open their eyes. What might you say to alter their minds whilst they argue that each and all of the undesirable issues interior the worldwide have been introduced approximately by way of those with "sight"? I positioned up on your attention that as quickly as you "close your strategies" on your man or woman spirituality, you substitute into that guy or woman with their eyes tightly close, petrified of what you ought to "see" and loath to place up your self to "one extra authority", the final project you elect after an prolonged warfare to alter into an self sufficient "loose certainty seeker". Your decision of words: "non secular lack of expertise" and the flaws you stated exhibit many stuff approximately you. you say you're no longer an atheist? On a scale from a million to ten, i might say 9.5. No atheist is ever totally dedicated to something yet their stomachs. Have a sturdy existence, save those eyes close.

God wants you to think for yourself. After all, you do. Don't you?
To answer your question, religion is humanity desperately trying to reach the divine - that's an impossible task which makes them do many stupid things. God came to earth as Jesus: giving his own life so we won't have to do so many stupid things to get to him.
