(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 )
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her."

(Deuteronomy 22:23-24 )
"If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife."

What kind of sick pervert is God?
Aren't you embarassed to believe in a book that preaches violence and doesn't give a crap about the victims?

Amazing how Xians argue the points AS THEY ARE STATED in their OWN BIBLE? Curious isn't it.

The Bible is the Bible. Xians, your god's word is in both parts of the bible is it not? So, what you are saying is you only believe HALF of what your god says. Think about it, brain storm, and come back when you have a decent answer.

Why are you calling God a sick pervert?
If the Bible was being written today, it would reflect whatever the laws and social attitudes are of the year 2007. When someone might read it in the year 3009, they might say "oh, man, God is such a sick pervert - did you read that? They actually let a man marry another man. Sick old God".

But is it God that developed that idea or man? Moses tried to add some kind of justice and meaning to the already unbelievable social climate and legalities of the times.

Also: Deuteronomy 22:28-29: does NOT SAY RAPE. It says that if she is a virgin and the two are found together, then he is forced to do the RIGHT THING AND MARRY HER, AND HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO THROW HER OUT ON THE STREET WITH NO SUPPORT -
meaning home, food, water, and care.
He can't just go around having sex with any virgins he happens to beguile and then leave them pregnant and alone. Its too bad the rules aren't more strict in our society today, since we have over a million deadbeat fathers in the USA ALONE.

NO, NOTHING ABOUT MY GOD EMBARRASSES ME, AND YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED ABOUT YOUR LACK OF BIBLICAL KNOWLEDGE.

In Jewish society (as in many others) a woman was only marriageable if she was a virgin. So creating an arrangement for a woman to be married after losing her virginity is perverted? It was through the provision of marriage that a woman was cared for and looked after, especially in her old age.

You forget that the Law also carried strict instructions on how to treat other people- including your marriage mate. The man who violated a woman wouldn't be allowed to harm his wife any more than his fellow man.

And the second scripture? I can't think of a single rape victim who wouldn't cry out for help, despite what the attacker says. There were false accusations of rape back then, just as there are today.

Nice job ignoring the rest of the book!

Overlooking the fact that your interpretation is (presumably intentionally) off: As it is from the Old Testament, shouldn't you ask the same question of Jews and Muslims?

Furthermore what does "believing in a book" mean to you? Do you honestly think that Christians today believe in raping women and stoning people? The Bible also says that thieves were crucified. Does that mean that Christians believe shoplifters should be nailed to a cross? The Bible speaks of beheadings and people being thrown to the Lions, so naturally, every church condones those actions today as well, right?

It is more embarrassing to me that so many Americans attack Christians, who, as a religious group, do more for the poor and needy than any other religion in the history of the world (including athiests). [Go back and read that again so it sinks in.] It is more embarrassing to me that those same people/groups that attack Christians, are quite often at the same time defending actions of the depraved.

There are Nazis, Klansmen, violent gangs, organized child molesters, suicide bombers, terrorist organizations, etc. There are other religions that suppress women's rights, harm children, still practice beheadings, canings, etc, but the REAL problem is those Christians! What with their charitable organizations and community work, how dare they!

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 is not referring to rape but to consensual fornication. It requires that the two found in adultery be married since they were already engaged in sexual intercourse which was prohibited.

Verses 23-24 refer to a consenting couple caught in adultery.

These punishments were appointed under the Law of Moses more than two thousand years ago. That law was fulfilled under Christ.

While these punishments may seem harsh to you, at least immorality was taken seriously, unlike the current attitudes in our decadent society.

I guess you base your entire beliefs on a few scriptures instead of looking at the "whole" of God. And you simply forget about how we are under a New Covenant through Jesus Christ- DID you also know that back in those times, punishment was like this?
Did you know it carried on this way for a long time? Of course now a days this is not the case. AND since Jesus Christ has come we are under HIS GRACE, not the law--does not mean the law is not important (His commandments) but this means, we are to LOVE eachother, just as Jesus tells us to. That love is most important. Also, once you stop bringing God down to your level, maybe then will you come to understand WHO God is. And His justice is justice. And all He does IS good- but many like to just base their entire belief system on a few passages in the Bible, instead of learning the entire BIBLE. But then again, you must have the Holy Spirit to teach you all truth- and believe me, it all makes sense, and it all comes together.....God's power and glory are being revealed all the time- and that is what matters most, because He is what is most important--- not us--- "God is opposed to the proud but gives grace to the humble" James 4:6

"It's NOT about the victims."
Define victim.
If the woman was a christian,or,a righteous jew,and she was killed, she would go to heaven, that makes her blessed, but not a victim.
If the rapist, was righteous,he would not rape ,and therefore, would not be a victim. If either the man,or the woman were un-righteous,then they both, are already victims of their own deviciveness, and therefore will surely be meted out God's righteous judgement. Where is your victim?
It's good that you're reading your bible, though, perhaps, soon, you'll get to the part that tells you that to know God's word, then not do His word, renders you, yourself, a victim of His great and righteous judgement. You have a choice to either be a victim,or a survivor,God is not the pervert here,...if you get my drift.

No because these seem like rules made up by man and given God's label accidently. People shouldn't get Jewish society mixed up with God's word. I thought Jesus was the Word of God. Not the Bible!

Christians can be nice but there are those who take these things literally like the troll who said last night she prays to god to kill my kids and send them to hell....we had a little war and yahoo is just ignoring it( no surprise there!!)
People like this wretch are why people have so much hatred for christians, if they left us in peace we may have more respect for them....
As for the bible i call it the little black book of hate.

God is not sick nor is he perverted. The only thing that is embarrassing is the fact that you put him down in the manner that you have. God cares for everyone, which would include you. God knew what he was doing when he sent his son Jesus to the cross. When Jesus died on the cross it canceled out all sin past and future. What Jesus did was not in vain. He did it for you, God has a plan.
