I'm in 7th grade, [1st year spanish] and already have the knowledge of a 3rd year.I'm half latina, although my dad has never been around to teach me spanish-I learned this year, and continuted to teach myself, with books, online resources,my boyfriend & other latino friends.I think i'm obsessed with learning the language? Instead of thinking in english, I think mainly in spanish or "spanglish".
Any advice on how to make my brain work right?

I dont think your brain isnt working right!! I think that you are just a smart girl with a gift for languages as well as a sense of strong motivation. It would be great if more students were like you.
When I was in the process of learning Spanish (which Ive mostly forgotten, sadly) I found that I thought in my head using Spanish often. It just means that you are assimilating the language and making it part of your self and part of your thinking. It's a good thing! You'll be dreaming in Spanish soon! :o)
Next thing for you is to get out and find native Spanish speakers (either online or in person) and practice, practice, practice. There are alot of phrases and words you wont learn in class that are part of the language.
Also, Im sure you know this, but the Spanish that is spoken by Latinos in the US, Mexicans and by Islanders and by European Spaniards, is all slightly different. I went to Puerto Rico and found the pronouncation was different than I was taught in school (My teacher was from Mexico City)
Keep up the good work!

Yes, you're perfectly normal.
At first thinking in Spanish was fun to try because it was a challenge. Now thinking bilingually is natural & I sometimes won't even remember in what language I had specific conversations.
I didn't start learning Spanish until 10th grade. I'm in college now & speak Spanish fluently. If the classes are too easy for you, talk to your teacher about skipping ahead. I took Spanish 1, 2, and 4 because I skipped 3. I could have skipped 4 too because when I took a test (only for Sp. 5 & 6 students usually) to get credit for college, I got the highest score possible.
I'm now married to a Spanish speaker & starting next month am going to live for a year in Mexico.
Spanglish is normal too. I know a lot of native Spanish speakers that don't even speak English but they use slang words from English without even realizing it.
Keep learning! It'll help you later in life.
You must be really smart since you're so good at learning it.

What makes you think your brain is not working right. It is very amiable to want to speak other languages, I speak seven and wish I spoke more, but don't have the time right now to learn more. The only thing is if thinking in Spanish or Spanglish is interfering with your usual school work you should keep your Spanish to a few hours a day this you set a time for and stick to it you'll be fine and will speak two languages in no time all the success you need I wish you Love Robert

I had a friend in 10th grade who was an exchange student from Mexico and she said that when she would talk to the Spanish teachers she had to switch her mind to spanish, then when she met up with her friends she had to switch her mind back to english. Sometimes she would get confused and it would take her a while to comprehend things. :)
Totally normal is basically what I'm saying!

Leave your brain alone. You can think in two languages. I took French for several years, and could think in both French and English. Nothing wrong with it.
