I have both. Before anything was done, I first made sure they used clean instruments and the person was experienced and licensed. The pierce itself stings when first inserted. With a pain rating of about a 2 for me. It throbs afterward and doesn't show much swelling the first day. After a couple of days it will start to swell and will bleed a little, rating of 5. If it really starts to hurt, apply ice to it, that helped me. Most importantly, keep it clean. Rinse your mouth with Listerine after you eat and squirt Bactine on it. After a month, with good care, your lip will be back to normal. I had mine for 5 years and taking it in and out days at a time was no problem but if you leave it out for more than a week, it will start to hurt when you try to put it back in. The more time you leave it out, it will be more painful trying to get it back in.
About tattoos, bad tattoos do hurt so I've been told...fortunately I did my research before getting mine. But I have seen and heard stories about bad ones. Bad tattoos hurt because they are infected and worst thing that can happen is that your skin will lift & peel from the infection.
Good luck with your decisions and be sure you do your research on the place and person you choose to do your body modifications =D

I have five tattoos. They vary in size and location. The small tattoo didn't hurt much at all, in part because the artist wasn't piercing the skin with the needles for very long ( about 30 - 40 min). The biggest took about five hours and hurt like a mother by the time it was done. Also, the big one is on my back, and I found tattooing right on my spine was the worst in terms of pain. On the other hand, the ones on my upper arms weren't bad at all. I think everybody's different in terms of where they're most sensitive and their tolerance for pain, and length of time has something to do with it too. You get more and more sensitive the longer they work in the same general area. I agree, though, that the pain goes away pretty quickly when the artist is done.

I had my snake bite done about 2 years ago(lower lip, side), and i was really suprised when he said he had finished, i was expecting a lot more pain. I would actually rate it a 2-3. About the only thing you have to watch when you get it done on the side is when its still swollen and healing, be very careful when you eat, i used to accidentally bite the back of mine about once a day, and every time i did, i just about had to be peeled off the ceiling, ouch. You can take it out, but it does begin to heal up in a matter of hours, making the hole smaller, and harder to get the stud back thru.
Tattoos, well it depends on your pain threshold and where you get it done, the more bony an area is that you are getting it done eg along the spine, ankle and so forth, the more it will hurt, plus there are some other places that are very fleshy that also hurt eg underside of upper arm. But generally to me it feels like someone is drawing the outline on me with a needle, which they basically are. And the colour and shading just felt like i was being badly sunburnt in one spot. I would put the whole process at a scale of 6-7, but then again, i have had kids, naturally, no pain killers.

I had my lip pierced and it really didn't hurt much at all to me (I'd say maybe a 4). I did take my lip ring out though as it was rubbing on my gums and it's horrible on your teeth.
As for tattoos, it depends on the tattoo artist (some dig deeper than others) and the person. Tattoos don't hurt much at all for me, but I have several friends who are absolute wussies about it.

Yes they all hurt. It all depends on what your pain level is. Lip piercing is startling at first then stings a little. The healing process depends on your own body. Remember you are giving your body a hole and you body is going to work at repairing it. I had my belly ring in for over a year and it came out while I was sleeping and it started to heal automatically.
Tattooing does hurt but then again it depends on your pain level and where you have it done. In my opinion my ankle hurt more than the small of my back more bone.
Good Luck

I have 3 tattoos and they really didn't hurt at all, but all people have a different tolerance to pain, my pain tolerance is higher than most though. Its more of an annoyance than pain really. I don't have my lip pierced, and i wouldn't get it pierced, I'm afraid of chipping a tooth or something. besides the pain of the tattoo goes away quickly.

The pain of a tattoo depends on your threshold for pain, the location of the tattoo, and the size of the tat. If you get a fleshier part of your body tattooed than it doesn't hurt as much. My tattoo on my lower back hurt as it got close to the spine- my leg felt like it was going to involuntarily jerk! Also, the inside of my upper arm hurt a bit as well.

tattoos do hurt to some extent. the placement and your level of pain tolerance will play a role in how much it will hurt you. and yes, in the end, it's worth it. just be sure that you do your research when choosing an artist. look for artists in your area, meet with them, visit various shops, look at portfolios... don't settle for anyone who isn't up to par with the look that you want. also, don't shop based on price. it's better to have to wait and save up for the artist that you really want than to go to someone else just because they're cheaper. you know what they say... cheap ink is not good and good ink is not cheap.

That's a classic inner lip tat. It's been done, but I still think it's the best thing for the area. Also my bf wanted to get SUP QT. What's up Cutie, lol. Any who, good luck!
