Don't give them a ride anymore. Tell them that if they cannot respect your wishes in regards to smoking, then they are not welcome in your car.
If someone pulls one out and lights up while you are driving, pull over and ask them to get out. This is basically the principle I used when I was a nanny and I had a kid who refused to wear his seatbelt. He was so surprised one day when we were driving along the freeway and he put on his sassy face and undid his seatbelt. Well, I just put my signal on and pulled right over on the side of the freeway. He was in a hurry to get somewhere and I told him this car doesn't move if anyone doesn't have their seatbelt on. He fought it for a while and then he put it on and we went on our way and he never tried it again.
Anyhow, you should do the same thing. Just pull over and refuse to go any further with smoking in your car. If they put it out and you go on and they start one up again, pull right back over. It may be a pain, but it will probably only happen for that day. Don't give in though. Consistency is the key, you have to stick with what you say, or they will walk all over you.
Otherwise, you could just tell them that you don't want to give them rides anymore and they need to find their own transportation!!!

Don't let them in your car. When you go somewhere, either drive separately and meet them there, or ride with them. I'm sure they'll still smoke in their car, and it will make you smell like smoke, but at least your car will be smoke-free. If you're the only one of your group of friends who has a car, then you need some new friends. LOL J/K of course. If this is the case, tell them you're sorry, but they won't respect your wishes, so you're no longer going to be their taxi driver. Unless you're going on a really long road trip, they CAN refrain from smoking for a couple hours.

If they smoked in my car I would not give them a ride again.
I can't stand smoking in an enclosed place and opening the window don't help much.
Find some new friends?

If I were a non-smoker, and my "so-called" friends insisted on smoking in my car despite repeated requests that they not do so - then I would look for better friends, or at the very least, not let them in my car again!

My husband is a smoker, and I have told him from day one that he is not to smoke in the car. If he was to smoke in the car, there would be world war 3. Anybody who knows me knows that smoking isn't allowed in my house or in my car. I have six children who do not need to be exposed to that and if they cant respect that fact, i will no longer invite them over.If I were you, those people would not ride in my car anymore and when they ask you why I would tell them since you have decided to disrespect me and my vehicle you are no longer welcome in my car. If they were in my car and lit up, I would ask them once to throw it out and then probably throw water at them.

Don't let them in your car until they put what ever they are smoking out. If they refuse to put it out before you enter your car suggest you take their car instead. If what they are smoking gets lit again while you are driving. Pull over and ask her or him to stand outside of your car and that you will wait until they are done. I am sure they will get the point that you are serious and not joking around.

One hard and fast rule- No smoking. If you smoke, I won't drive.
Period.
It may take a while for your friends to wise up, but it's your car and your lungs. You have right to breathe freely and drive without the cancerous fumes in your car.
