Nice theory. It is said that history repeats itself... maybe we are seeing the repeat of that incident now?

Babylon the Great is mentioned in Revelation as having "relations with the kings and the merchants of the Earth." It is also said that she "sits on many waters."
In the Bible, the "sea" or "waters" often refer to mankind. So, can you think of a large organization that is involved in politics and commercialism that "misleads the entire inhabited Earth?"
If false religion doesn't fit that bill, I don't want to know what does!

That is a very good parallel, christianity is broken up into thousands of divisions as of now. The apostles were always arguing over who was the greatest, which we could also apply to todays mess.
