Running outside is harder to keep up a steady pace, but it is more enjoyable to see whats around you instead of just staring at the wall or all the other people running on treadmills

Machines are the way to go to minimize damage to the heels and legs. Lower impact reduces stress on the bones.

on a treadmill for me b/c if i run outside i wont run hard enough, with the treadmill u have levels of speed to track ur progress.

Both are effective but you always want to run on a smooth surface when running outdoors.

Outside. I had a friend who ran marathons,used to train on tredmill at our gym, I believe his trainer advised against spending so long on t/mill as it had more chance of injuring the knee joints
