I dont want to sound like totally superficial or whatever, but I am curious...I am getting to the age where I am thinking of having kids...I take real pride in my body, i work out do what I need to do and i am wondering if I have a child will I always look different? Will stretch marks go away, will I be able to tighten back up, or does being a mom mean looking different? I know it sounds horrible, but I have a few friends that have kids and well they are a far cry from what they used to look like...

it just depends on you and how dedicated you'd be to getting your body back. i only gained 20 lbs and still looked fine after i gave birth. but i exercised everyday. i was sick everyday and it was a struggle to gain weight when everything makes you throw up. after i gave birth i was STARVING. now i'm living with that decision and have to start really grinding down. so my problems didn't come till after i gave birth and i went for quick fix fatty meals instead of the usual fresh and healthy stuff i used to make. so i still have maybe 15 of those 20 lbs.

but the stretch marks don't fade. i tried everything. i did use stretch mark cream as a preventative through whole pregnancy and i only have 3 marks. 2 on one hip and 1 on the other. but my metabolism has definatley slowed down. it's just not the same. but maybe that won't happen for you. but the pros of having a little baby outwiegh a few extra lbs.

If you were to have 1 child, it would be easy to get your body back into shape if you take care of it when you are pregnant.

The ideal weight to gain during a pregnancy is 25-30lbs. If you gain in this range and use coco butter EVERY DAY, you should not get any stretch marks. Stretch marks never go away, there is not even a prescription medicine to get rid of them, but they do lighten.

All I can tell you is that Yes, it is possible, very possible. I did it after my first son. But if you do not take care of your body WHILE your are pregnant, you will never have your pre-pregnancy body again.

it's up to you how you end up looking. the only thing you have no control over is your hips. those do get bigger. everything else depends on how much effort you put into taking care of yourself. stretch marks happen when you gain a huge amount of weight in a very short period of time. if you gain the weight gradually you will lessen the chance of getting stretch marks. keep in mind that once you have a baby, they are a lot of work and most moms are too tired to even exercise which is why we don't lose all the weight.

You can tone back up (look at Denise Austin, she's had 3 kids and looks great!), but stretch marks are forever (short of dermabrasion or whatever). Your genetics will play a part and you just have to decide whether your looks or your children are more important.

Will it matter when you're 70 and all wrinkly and saggy, but kidless because you worried about your body being ruined?

Not everyone gets stretch marks...I would say most of my friends didn't...or very few. If you work-out now and make an errort to keep it up...you can still look good. I think a lot of women put working out on the back burner because they want to put everyone else first. It takes a good balance, but its possible to have both.

Truth be told, even the rich and famous get stretch marks to different degrees, sagging breasts (as they age and/or breast feed) and flab. It's even possible you end up with a just lovely c-section scar (I'm lucky to sport one),. Hey, it's part of life. But so is getting old.

If that's keeping you from having kids, you may also remember that being a mother isn't all pretty -- its pooping kids, and spitting, and snot! However, for your body, there is always surgery - breast augmentation et al.

If these are questions on your mind, you might want to reconsider the timing as you may not be ready. It is a lot of sacrafice and work to do this and it sometimes can effect how you look etc. That is supposed to be the least of your concerns though if you are interested in having children.

Personally I do not have any, and really don't plan to because I cannot deal with those types of changes and think it would make me nuts..

It depends partially upon your genes and partially on how well you work out after childbirth. I've seen a catholic woman who had 8+ kids and she looks as slender as a virgin. I, on the other hand, have one 4-year old, and I still look 9 mos. pregnant. Of course, I'm not big on exercise, either. If you continue to work out as you have been, I think you'll be fine.
