God yes! (pun intended)
we instead should spread a open mindedness movement, because if we force our beliefs, or unbeliefs, we are no better than them. we should promote awareness and free thought

I don't think atheism should do it(preaching). By spreading yours beliefs you will are actually moving towards to becoming a religion organization (this is how religion evolve till what we have around the world now). Every religion claims that they show people the "truth" so who's real? You will end up like them if you manage your organization the way they do, no matter how much difference of beliefs is between yours and their groups.
I always believe eveyone of us have self awareness, so lets these things evolve or grow(or not) without forcing it :)

Spreading atheism is a bit of a contradiction.
It's a bit like forming an organization to enlighten people about anarchy. As soon as you form the organization, then it's no longer anarchy.
I think most atheists believe that people should be allowed to believe whatever they want, as long as it doesn't infringe on others' right to do (or not do) the same.

No. A movement to spread a belief is what most religions do, and we shouldn't go down that road. We need to get religion the f*** out of politics and schools. Beyond that, people can believe what they want. BUT, unasked-for preaching should be illegal!

By spreading atheism, we would become the very people we love to hate. There is no need to stop the spread of ignorance - hopefully, it will accomplish defeat on its own.
It is okay to allow others to beleive what they want - as long as they allow you to beleive what you want. It only gets ugly when the religious want to force their way upon everyone else. Thats something I'd stand up and die to prevent happening.
There is one movement, called the Brights, that is headquartered right here in Northern California.

I thought some people were spreading the atheist message. Weren't a few of them on TV the other night in a debate? Aren't they on this forum spreading their joyous message?

No, but we should spread knowledge, promote critical thinking, and teach the scientific method.
Benevolent, agnostic religion is okay with me.

It is something everyone should come to in their own way and their own time. Not all religions are oppressive in how they bring beliefs across to a person - they merely worship in their own style very quietly. Would you press them when they've not pressed you?

I'm not even for atheism per se, I just think it's a natural outgrowth of reason, logic, education, and empiricism.
Don't fight religion. Fight ignorance.
