It is painful while locked. I can unlock it by straightening my leg but it is extremely painful while doing so. That has happened four times during the past two weeks. I have been taking 8-hour tylenol before going to bed but don't know whether I should be doing that.

I usually go to sleep on my right side but sometimes during the night I turn over and when I do that my right knee locks up.

Mine also locked for several years and popped loudly when straightening it out, alos with pain. After an MRI it was determined I had a torn menicus. I had surgery 4 weeks ago to fix it and there has been no popping or locking since and other than the initial surgery pain, there has been little or no pain since.

it's apparent that the pressure of your body on your knee is causing it to lock up. You need to start training yourself to sleep on your back. Sleeping on your back is really the healthiest position to keep the joints resting comfortably. I know it's difficult to do, but I had to learn how to do it and I did. So I know it can be done.

if this continues you should consult a chiropractor who works with these types of problems. I've enclosed a link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.

I know what you are talking about. The same thing happens to me when I move my knee the wrong way. You need to get this checked out. It will continue to get worse. I was not able to walk for two weeks b/c of this b/c it never went back into place. It could be your cartilage. It was my patella cartilage. Go see a GOOD knee doctor and get it evaluated. Trust me it will get worse.
