I will choose the 9mm. I own both 9mm and .45 but when it counts I want the 9mm. Its easier to get a couple aimed shots with the 9mm, where I would only get 1 aimed shot with the .45 in an emergency. Second, I have never seen a .45 that I could conceal worth a darn.
As for those of you who feel 9mm lacks stopping power, have you ever volunteered to stand on the business end of one? I sure as hell wouldn't

I choose the .45ACP because I think it makes a better recreational round, makes big holes, and no other round is right for the 1911 series (one of my favorites). For defense, however, I am a follower of 9mm/.357 ballistics. Nothing beats a 124/125 hp (or even jsp) screaming at 1350-1450 FPS. Sorry guys, but you "fight with the whole gun", not just the first round.

Of the two, I'd take the .45 ACP.
But I'd swap two of either for one revolver in .44 SPL or .357 Magnum.

45. Not a big fan of supersonic pistol rounds with snappy recoil. It does make a very good subgun and military service round though.
