You are absolutly right. People speak out of ignorance often... especially on here. Every person is entitled to their own belief system, and I am willing to listen to anyone as long as they dont try to shove their beliefs down my throat to make me believe. We should be able to sit down and disguss the difference between each religion with out this. Beyond religion are simple morals in life. Each person values different morals differently and should not be looked down upon unless they are hurting themselves or others. Keep an open mind, Im convinced its open mindedness that keeps this world turning. Good luck.

As with many things, it depends on the context. I don't mind being hailed as an 'idiot' while on answers because most of the time the granter of the title and I would usually get along under other circumstances.
Expressing political opinion on this platform that allows for such a barricade is harmless to all but the most sensitive of individuals.
Do I engage in name calling?
Certainly.
But I try to adorn my invective with a little creativity.........sometimes.
Cogent and well formed thoughts?
Almost never:)

Shut up you stupid.
J/K
People see threat in different ideas because they're afraid their beliefs might be wrong. Atheists and people of faith, alike. Person A or person B, it doesn't matter.
Some people would rather debate then learn from each other and go on learning. Some people would rather go from one arguement to the next simply to give themselves a reason to live and satisfy their sense of self-worth. Those people are the ones that choose to take up productive people's oxygen and space.

Amen!!!
We've become a nation of namecallers. This right wing/left wing garbage drives me nuts. We aren't just Americans anymore, we have to be pigeonholed in some group!
The most frustrating thing is that someone always feels it's needed to categorize us. Not only is it angering but it's totally non-productive. This stuff only further divides our once great nation.

Good question. However, I have noticed it's mostly the conservatives or so-called republicans who resort to name calling. I think it is because they have no facts to back their stands. Most of the time, their education level is low as well. I guess there is nothing else to resort to when you're not educated and you have no coherent facts to back your stands.

You're right. It often shuts down debate. However, the word idiot and the word moron have distinct, dictionary definitions that often apply to people who are acting idiotic and moronic. We seem to see a lot of that in the political arena.
