The real question should be "if you base your assumption that Peter was the first pope on Matthew 16:17, why does Jesus than call Peter 'Satan' and an offense to Him just a few verses down in Matthew 16:23, and where in the Bible does it say there will be papal succession?"

At Matt. 28:18, Jesus said that "all authority has been given me in heaven and on earth." If that is true, how did the pope get that authority? By accepting the title of hisoffice, he is showing total disregard for what Jesus said about not using religious titles like "father." (Matt. 23:9) The word "pope" comes from the Latin "pappas" which means "father."

authority over matters of faith - no man, in this time or that past, since the Apostles has walked physically beside God/Jesus and thus the miracles that happen are of faith in God. the pope helps guide those in the interpretation of the scriptures so that on this earth we can walk hand in hand with Christ in spirit, in action and in word and once we join Him in heaven, then we will all "walk on water".

Apostolic Succession is a lie. The Pope is nothing more than a elected cult leader.

the issue with the Pope is "having all authority".... having all faith to do those other things is a different matter.
...
but "all authority" is not exclusive to the Pope.... it has been given to all believers.
and its only authority over all the power of the enemy - of the demonic sort, not over people.
good post though.

You are comparing apples and oranges. The authority given to the Vicar of Christ and Peter's successor on earth is one of authority over religious matters, not ability to perform miracles.
Don S., I have read the Bible, and I agree with my Church's interpretation of it.

How about if you wake up and realize that Catholicism was the first Christian religion has been around for almost 2000 years before yours came along because you didn't like some of the rules. Come back to the one true Church and be saved!
