So my question to christians is: How many other religions have you looked into?? I'm not talking about what you hear in the media or from your friends, but how many of you hace actually picked up the Torah or Quran or Book of Mormon?? Honestly. How can those who haven't done this say that their religion is the only true one when you haven't even looked at any others with an open mind? Perhaps your god, seeing as you need one, isn't where you think he is.

Excellent question. I'm not a Christian, but I wanted to applaud the question and say I think a course about world religions is something everyone can benefit from, regardless of one's own opinion. The mere exposure to what other people think could go a long way in allowing even strongly religious people to understand who they might be talking to.

And non-theistic religions and spirituality might not be overlooked so much, and we'd get that stupid question fewer than 10 times a day.

There can only be one God and one right way, but there are many ways to be wrong. Why are most religions uniting? It is because they share a number of the same errors. Look to the faith that is persecuted the most (and I don't mean media coverage), and that is the one to follow. The correct path is the narrow and unpopular one, and one marked with persecution. I believe most "Christians" have a myopic view of what Christianity is. They don't put themselves out where they'll risk persecution. For an average large church, they think missionary work is taking a luxury cruise vacation.

I believe the same things about popularity applies to individual churches. The larger ones tend to be the most distant from the truth, though not always. Telling people they are good enough as they are draws crowds. People tend to want the easy road. Of course, small size doesn't always mean anything good either. Westboro Baptist is small for a good reason; they are an extremist group.

How about checking out religions that do not originate in the Bronze Age Middle East? There are many; from Aboriginals in Australia, to the Celtic religions, Buddhism, Native American spirituality, and many more. There is a whole world of diversity when it comes to pondering the divine, and in my opinion the Middle East has not done the best job.

Shinto, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Hindu, etc

The Gita was very interesting. The translation I read had a pre-face where the reader was instructed to make no interpretation of the scripture.

After every scripture there was an interpretation of what the scripture meant.

Of course I went through the agnosticism phase.

Eventually I shrugged off the Irreligious Libiralist Democrat theology of fascism that my parents attempted to force onto me and I accepted Christ.

I tend not to believe much of what other people say and form my own opinions. I know its hard for some atheists to think that Christians can think for themselves and come to our faith because its what's right for us.

I've personally studied many of the major religions. I actually have a "World Religions" book here beside my desk as a reference. I've read parts of the Quran and I've read The Book of Mormon in its entirety. I've also read a few of Buckland's books on witchcraft, and Anton LaVey's The Satanic Bible and The Satanic Witch. I've attended Jewish religious services and I've meditated with Theravada Buddhists. I'm fairly educated in the various religions.

I also know the truth. There are several of those religions which seem more "fun" and "laidback" and appealing than my own sometimes -- but I'm not going to ignore the truth to fit my own unimportant needs. My desire is to please God, not myself.

The Torah is included in the Bible and If a man knows the truth why would he feel the need to search elsewhere? I have a personal relationship with God and the Holy Spirit guides me to his truth.

A very few, infinitesimal amount maybe have researched other religions. The vast majority don't bother - they already have the truth.

In a conversation with a devout Christian from this site, I was told that he had no need to research other religions, because everything he knew about them was already proven false by the Bible. Funny thing was, he then tried to tell me that Muslims werent right because they didnt beleive in Jesus. I had to correct this guy who ASSUMED he knew everything there was to know about Islam - they do indeed beleive in Jesus, and consider him to the a prophet just like Mohammed - just not the Son of God.

Either cheryllynn is a liar, or she doesnt know how to communicate well. No Atheist would teach you to weigh the pros and cons and make a decision based off of that... We base our decisions upon logic and rationality. What might be illogical or irrational can STILL have pros, as well as cons. So, she may have chosen to beleive in Christianity based upon the pros and cons of that particular religion - however, that was NOT a LOGICAL thing to do!

The truth is that each and every religion, dogma, sect or philosophical school holds but a small part of a greater truth, one deprived from mankind millions of years ago.
There is only one Creator but many false 'gods' claiming territorial rights in many places of this vast universe however such an abuse in the name of God is unique only on Earth. Christians claim their god to be the only true god but so do Muslims. Well I'm a simple human being and in my plain human mind I realize that sun shines for everybody, rain falls on all crop fields, stars come out every night for everybody to see and wonder about the vastness of love Creator must feel for His creatures to allow freedom of will turn from a gift to a curse dividing His children, killing each other and all that in His name. What a joke!!!

Well Christianity IS the true religion, only Jesus claimed to be the Son.
Also when I pray to God in the name of Jesus, my prayers are mostly answered(exept when I'm being selfish).
And if I read another (so called) holy book I would be doubting the Bible and my faith is strong.

God is exactly where we think he is. The Torah is in our bible it's called the OLD TESTAMENT! We don't need to look at the Quran because Jesus is just a prophet in there, when we Christians know he's much more! And the book of MORON is a waste of paper. That guy who created it must've been doing some peyote & shrooms!
