Do you mean WW 2?
We dropped the bomb in the belief that fewer lives would be lost if Japan were to see the futility in further resistance.

Actually it was World War II. they dropped it to end the war. Otherwise, the allies would have had to actually invade Japan and their was an estimate of around 250,000 allied casualties expected, mainly Americans. Not counting probably a million Japanese deaths, a lot of civilians.
The Americans were trying to avoid invading Japan. By dropping the atomic bombs, they had hoped to get the Japanese government (expecially the Emporer) to see the futility of going on, therby, in the long run saving lives.

hassle-free arithmetic for you draw the appropriate answer. look on the conflict for Okinawa, extensive sort in the past and after the conflict advance into over. Japan had 117,000 basically 7500 survived. look a Iwo Jima, numbers in the past and after wards. Of the 22,000 jap infantrymen contemporary on the commencing up of the conflict, basically 216 have been taken prisoner Now count extensive sort the ineffective from the two Atomic bombs.... hiroshima sixty six,000 people have been killed Nagasaki sort of deaths at 35,000 now the tip is that in the time of two atomic bombings decrease than those killed at Okinawa and Iwo have been killed. Japan had lost on the fringe of a million adult adult males in the past the bombing and vowed to combat for the main significant land as they did for Iwo or Okinawa and does no longer renounce. whilst they found they could no longer punish the yank military for the bombings and understood they could basically go through extra atomic bombing they surrendered.

Because the Germans attacked Pearl Harbor in the US Civil War to free the Ottomans from Egypt which was all to honor a system known as 'apartheid.'
yeah, that's a joke.
It was World War 2, fyi, and the US did it because an invasion would have likely cost over a million lives.

In the long run for the scheme of events -
the dropping of the "bomb" helped saved countless tens of thousands of lives, for both sides.
And, you should be thinking of World War 2, not World War 1.

The Japanese were fanatical fighters. At Iwa Jima they fought to the last bullet then would charge with blades. Those that were not killed in fighting (women and children) would kill themselves. With such a tenacious enemy the American losses were estimated at over 1 million to invade Japan. In addition, with such a die hard attitude the Japanese losses were estimated to be even higher.
The losses at Hiroshima (and Nagasaki for that matter) were in the 10's of thousands. 45k and 70 respectively if memory serves, but don't quote me. Therefore, the loss of life was far less to drop the bombs. Not to mention that it would have taken several more years of combat to end the war with conventional means.

Actuallt it was WW2 and it was done to force the Japan to surrender and to take the fight to their homeland. However, here is a interesting side note... The US said it would never have dropped the bomb if they had relized just how devestating it could be. Here is a cool second side note... The bomb was nuclear. All bombs are atomic as they involve the electrons of an atom.

WTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can you mix up WWI and WWII. In WWI the Japanese WERE ARE ALLIES. We dropped the bombs on Japan in 1945. In WWI, their was no Nukes or a big, metal, monowing, heavy bomber that could have carried a Nuke.
