its an avi file which means absolutely nothing to me cuz im not good with file types. i tried playing it on winamp and windows media and they both don't work. any suggestions on how i can get the video to show?

Download the DIVX player. You will have better luck with it. Get it here:

Just go to divx.com and download the codec package, and then just open the file in windows media player. If you have downloaded the divx codec, and it still won’t play then go and google xvid, and download its codec.As for playing the .avi on your dvd player, most of the burning programs, using Nero, NTI, etc you should be able to make a VCD, which your dvd player should be able to play.

You need the right codecs on your machine.
Codec = Compression/Decompression software. (Co Dec)
Use this link to install all the codecs you need:

(That is a direct link to the Full K-Lite codec pack)
VLC media player is good too, but despite what everyone else here will post about it, you DO need the right codecs. VLC's support site even says so. (It just so happens that many, but not all codecs come with the VLC installation package.)

Hmm.. Maybe try the following:
`Update your Windows Media Player to the newest version.
`Update Java to the newest version.
`Update you flash player (?)
If neither of these work, I'd just convert the avi video file to a format that your computer *can* recognize.

Download divx player (http://www.dvix.com) which will install the divx video codec for you.
Some movies are also encoded in AC3 audio format so you should also instal the AC3 codec as well

Sometimes I need a program called "DivX Video Player". Dowloading it is free. You can try it and see if it works.
