Open the driver's side door, lock the doors with the power door lock switch. Close the door. Unlock the driver's door with the key, do not use the keyless entry. Then unlock the rest of the doors with the power door lock switch, this should reset your system, and reset the engine demobilizer.
Had this happen to me after I locked my keys in my jeep and used a different key to unlock the door, and since the engine was running at the time, as soon as I turned off the engine, it wouldn't start. Had to call my buddy's at Buck's 4X4 in Boise, ID, to find out what and how to fix the problem.

Sounds like the door lock actuator in the driver's door is not opening the door. There is an alarm switrch on the door lock cylinder that will disarm the alarm when you open the door by key or keyless entry. Have the door checked, it sounds like the root of the problem.

I have heard stories of some of those mid 90s jeeps having a problem with the nuetral safety switch, it a cheaply made plastic switch that costs about 60 bucks. Sometimes after years of vibration it gets old and tired., and moisture or oil can contaminate it internally, what you really need is someone who knows those old jeeps and can do the diagnostic tests it needs, not guessing at what parts to pop in next.

Try the reset button. check owners manual for location. Or sometimes the metal part of a key chain can interfere with the chip in the ignition key. try removing from your key chain and see if will work then?
