Although I do have sympathy for the homeless, I always wonder how they got there. A majority of the time, it was because of their own choices. However, some people are victims of consequence and could honestly use that helping hand.
For example, one time I was in Ireland with my father, and we saw a brother and sister sitting on the street. They couldn't of been older than 10 years old. It was clearly not their fault they were homeless, and we donated them some money.

I'm not very willing to give out the free buck, my uncle was an alcoholic and at times homeless, and he quite honestly told me where the money would be going if I gave him some. But if I'm walking into a convienence store or a deli, I'll ask if they'd like a water, soda, or a snack. Some will gladly accept something, some won't. I always remember to wish them a nice day after I politely decline the request for a handout.

In florida it really hot. So I gave a homeless man sitting on a bench outside the mall a dollar to get something to drink. He didn't ask for the dollar.

I think there's only been one occassion where I've given a dollar but its usually just a quarter here and there. I usually have spare change in my pocket that I don't need...but I have a big heart so yes I would give a dollar to someone if they really needed it.

I'm very willing to give my spare change to someone on the street if I have it readily available. No, they don't need to justify their life circumstances to me. I am just grateful to God everyday that I am blessed enough not to have to live like that and I'm not going to be the one to demean someone who is clearly already down and out.

Never. I used to give money to them all the time. Until I did volunteer work for the Salvation Army. They get 3 free meals a day and a roof over their head. Most have no desire to work and live off of panhandling. They spend almost all of the money on drugs or alcohol. I AM NOT GOING TO ENABLE MY OWN CHILDS DRUG PROBLEM, WHY SHOULD I ENABLE THEIRS. Nope, never, ever, again. If they want to buy drugs or alcohol, they can work for the money. DO NOT ENABLE THEM. You are only contributing to their addiction.
BTW - If you see them sleeping on the street, it is because many homeless shelters will not let them in after a certain hour and most will not let them in if they are drunk or high. So they must sleep on the street.

Well, being just a dollar, i doubt it would bother me. Reasons are nice so you know what it is being used for, but if they really need it, i suppose it is okay for them to just ask.â¥

Yes I could spare a dollar. just so it goes towards my karma. Even if they are fake hobos just looking to make a buck, at least I knew I did a good deed.

I always do. It's not my place to demand what their reasons for needing money are, and I don't care what they buy with it. I'd rather be charitable and feel good about myself for doing a good deed and maybe helping someone who needed it.
