Is it possable to alergic to meat? One of the little girls in the class I was working in today said that she is alergic to beef and pork. I've never heard of this before. Anyone know if it's true? Or as I think it might be something that her parents have told her to stop her from eatting meat as I think they are both vegan.

There isn't a definitive allergy to pork and beef as the proteins in them are completely different. It is more likely that if she is allergic to them that it would be something that has been added to the meat during processing rather than the actual meat itself. I would imagine that both her parents being vegan could have a lot to do with it. Young children do use the word 'allergy' a lot as it is a recognisable word in not being able to eat something. My daughter has an intolerance to Aspartame and whenever she went round people's houses, even at a young age she would say I can't have that juice cos I'm allergic to it.

Hi
If her parents are Vegan, They have told her that ,so that nobody makes her eat meat, and the school should respect what she says, and not force her to eat any meat.
On the other hand she may be allergic to beef /pork, there's lots of things injected into these meats, antibiotics for one, she could be allergic to this,

Yes, it is absolutely possible to be allergic to beef and pork. There are many people who have an IgE mediated allergy to the proteins in these items.

If you're not familiar with food allergies, it does sound far-fetched.

Maybe this little girl's family is vegan because of her beef and pork allergies? There are many allergy families who try to completely eliminate all allergens from their home.

I'm no expert but I would think that an allergy could involve meat but not have meat as the principal source of allergic reaction, the child would probably be allergic to many other protein based substances, methinks the parents are pulling a fast one!

Some Years ago, I got very sick with stomach cramp and sever pains this carried on for Months. I then decided to visit my GP. He told me to avoid all Red Meat as it was possibly caused by a problem digesting the animal fat. I followed his instructions and it slowly got better. After some months, I got bored with eating Chicken and now eat a mainly Vegetarian Diet with some Fish. (Which I have been informed makes me a Piscatarian!)

my friends daughter is mainly allergic to fish and nuts, so it might be true. if she was vegan then she wouldn't be eating chicken or lamb surely. Ask her if she can eat other meats. But don't give her any just to prove a point.

You can be allergic to all different kinds of foods. My ex-husband had about 60 different allergies, including not just the usual peanuts, eggs and milk, but seafood, any kind of fruit with pectin in it, on and on and on. If I'd known the things he said to my family back then, I'd have fed him apples smeared with peanut butter, topped off with a milkshake!

a allergic reaction is when you get hives cant breath because your throat closes which is probably not the case. However people do have sensitivitys to food that cause gas ,headaches, stomaches.Which is not the same as a allergy.
