I think you can design and build a temple as you want. A pyramid type of emple also can be built. In fact there are many temples having this shape more or less. Th big Temple of Tanjavur is basically a pyramid shaped one.

But there are many other aspects you have to take care. There are renowned temple STAPATHIs available and hey are masters in this subject. They will be able to tell you the architectural norms to be applied in temple building as most of the temples of India (especially of South India) are built as per the rules of Agamas. In fact you can inquire at Puttaparthi Prashanti Nilayam itself and Sai Baba's office will guide you.

Unless you follow maximum stipulations there may be objection from someone and others may not approve your temple, then it will go a waste. So take care. -

Absolutely yes. You might want to avoid the pyramid shape in the strictest of forms, however, if you look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu_temple_architecture
there are many examples which take on similar forms. The religion has a focus to the sky/heavens and naturally this form would bring the eye to that level.

Good luck and have fun with your project!

Natural reaction - NO. But I think if you make your intentions known (and somehow record them so that visitos can see them) that it i sjust different becuase you wanted to dedictaed something special to Sai baba then it wont be an issue since it could be considered a compliment.
