Ahhhhhhh-a traditional Japanese/Okinawan stylist. You usually see this more with a yoku geri. Age can have something to do with this. If you are younger or placed excess stress on the joint at to early of an age that can cause this. If not then then yes you can strain the muscles and ligaments so that your hip is literally coming out of joint slightly on some kicks. I would first give it a weeks rest and gradually start working out again and see if it comes back or at what point. If it does then you may be able to resolve it by building up the muscles around with exercises and weight lifting exercises like seated leg presses or small circle rotations of your leg clock wise and counter clockwise while laying on the floor with your leg and foot extended out. Also your warm-up routine may help resolve some of this. Does your warm routine include your hips and lower back or just stretching those hamstings and your groin? Some hip problems are aggravated by low back problems. Also the mawashi geri technique itself has you pivoting and your hip getting there with the leg and foot at the same time. Are you doing that or are you not pivoting and not turning your hip so that the joint has to take all the stress-espeically when you don't make contact with something. If all else fails consult your physician or talk to a PT or sports medicine doctor and they can determine what the problem is and how best to fix it.

I love popping my joints in that area ... feels really good and when it finally just... POPS! uh so good.
I can do it daily .. that's something I am here to learn more about though. Why is this happening? Is it the same as when you crack a knuckle? Or is it worse? Is it bad... etc? I don't feel or find it bad because when I do it if.. feels ...Sooooo-------- good. :) So I can't see it being bad.
There is however one thing I know for sure wrong in my right hip... now my butt check doesn't line up or look the same as where the other left cheek does.. .so I can immediately tell there is something going on there.
It can/could be misalignment since I had corrected it before doing a few of the best realignment exercises I have ever found. But I had stopped after it popping back into perfect form and after a few years now I have noticed it slipping. So I think it may be that or might be that the muscles need building up again.
Another thing I have found that my right side is shorter like it is said to be ..for some odd reason.. but when I had done what I had done.. it corrected that too. both side where even and everything looked like so round and bubbly and in shape. It was the hardest thing I have ever done to get it like that.. I know I could do it again but If I could figure out why that hip is so out... I need to constantly stretch it.
and as I've said soon as I stop.. bam in a week it'll be back. so. that's why I'm am looking into finding out why it is doing this.. is it how I sit ride a bike run walk.. or is it in my hip was it something I did long ago when I was younger.. I think this might be it because I had been on a trampoline.. with my friend.. I went to jump off and I landed wrong lol and uh :) my knee came out of it's socket... I know I know most of you might think it would hurt.. nut ah . no it didn't I felt funny like tingly .. but only for the few short short seconds I let it stay that way because as soon as it had happened I knew and I idk I just instinctively raised my right hand put my palm out like in a "L" shape with my palm facing down and hit it.. it made a popping noise and it was fine. Back in the socket xD lol never had to go to the doctors or anything but now I think maybe I should have even after that.

I believe that mae geri and mawashi geri refer to front kicks and round kicks, specifically.
Do you practice kyokushin or shotokan?
I do not have experience in either style, but I occasionally have the same sensation, especially when I was training heavily in TaeKwonDo. (lots of kicks there too)
Be careful not to lock out a joint if there is no resistance to counter your movement, stretch thoroughly, and you may want to work on some exercises for the muscles surrounding your hip joint, to keep it firmly in place.

Whatever you are doing to make your hip "pop" I would seriously consider stopping it.
Honestly, if you are doing the technique correctly there should be no joint problems. This is something you really need to discuss with your instructor. It is not normal. If you are hoping for it to just go away then consider that the joint is wearing down and you might cause yourself to need a hip replacement before you are 50.

I do Taekwondo andI experience the same sensation, only in my knees when kicking and fighting. Try physical therapy or find some exercises to strengthen the muscles around the joint. I'm going through physical therapy right now and it's helped a lot.

I remember this popping from my early days of Yoga, the sound is the same as when you take your tongue off the roof of your mouth. If this is accompanied by pain, you need rest and more professional advice. Warm-up properly and work daily on your flexibility, which can change through out the day, i.e. stiffer in the morning compared to the evening. E-mail me if you want some ideas on stretching exercises

I'd go to a massage therapist and take yoga. The feeling may be due to muscles pulling too tightly on your hips. Ive felt some such senstations before, and they go away with good yoga stretches that focus on hips and legs

you should probably have your hip checked you could have a problem that is causing it and needs to be corrected, I would seriously seek professional help before further training and risking a serious injury.
