Swimming is the best activity. Being overweight will not keep you from being able to surf, but being in good cardiovascular shape is really important. It is a tough work out! I am about 20 lbs overweight and surf almost every day, my heart and lungs are OK, i just eat too much!

swim!!!!

Learn to breast stroke with your head above water. If you are outside in Waikiki, you might want to know where the wave is when you swim and where your surfboard is.

Swim and hold your breath underwater.

You will most likely be ducking under waves.

Swim! Waikiki is not a shore break. You'll be paddling around a lot especially if you loose your board and then it's swim and swim some more!!

Core and balance, in addition to the above. I find that ballet helps me most because it works the abs, back and legs. Doing ball workouts for core strength or working a Bosu will definitely help!

And make sure you have the swimming skills necessary to survive wipeouts and being throttled, it happens!!!

Enjoy your trip!!!

just hit the gym every morning and watch what you eat, get a trainer and most of all believe you can lose weight
